They've got 2 years left, tops.

/Okay probably 3, but that last one will just be people orderly streaming through the exits.

Since we probably won't get two "RIM is screwed" threads in one day, I loved this one from the Giz article on him:

I chatted with the folks - lots of questions, good discussions - and there came a theme out of it. I must have said somewhere at the end to inspire the people and get the message across "Let's rock and roll this!". Now I see this everywhere as their BlackBerry theme. "Let's rock and roll this"... I like that.

You can just see that hanging from a banner, Office Space style, somewhere in the RIM headquarters. All the employees will probably get custom printed water bottles or pens with that logo on it. Yeeesh.

The stupid involved in adopting that slogan is spectacular to behold.

They will, and there will be oversized t-shirts as well. All of the corporate computers used to have "Blackberry Love" on the default screen saver.

Someone exec will pat themselves on the back, give himself a raise and buy his friends company with the cash.

Said it before. I'll say it again. I think Blackberry should drop their OS and switch to Android. Instead of trying to beat apple and 5-6 different droid makers...join droid.

BBM and email become apps that tie to the legacy systems.

Then, you have one phone line for the people who like the traditional BB experience; e.g. keyboard, trackball etc....

And another phone line for touchscreen (iphone/android similar)...And invest 90% of your resources into the battery....find a way to get battery to last 7-10 hours under heavy usage...and they might be able to save the company.

/or keep on the path to the morgue.

Because when I think Rock and Roll, I think this guy...

cdn3.sbnation.com

RIM's problem isn't product or execution or failure to predict the market, its that their management team, the same one that has wiped off something like 60 billion dollars in market cap, doesn't think there is a problem.

And that is a board problem, folks. Their stock will be worth less than $10 in a year.

Forget the stock price, forget the investors, and focus on what's in front of you. If you don't have a product people actually want, your company will go out of business.

Their plan was more to market towards corporate users. Does android offer that level of control, or does it lead to people playing angry birds and using facebook on their company issued blackberries after rooting them?

I went to their Blackberry World conference last year and after they gave everybody a Playbook for free, some marketing genius got up on stage and said "We've always had the steak, but this is bringing the sizzle. Ssssssssssss!"

For the rest of the conference every time I saw that guy he would point to a Playbook that someone was inevitably carrying around and go "Sssssssss! Sizzle!"

I remember thinking "if that man worked for me, I'd fire him and then punch him right in the mouth."

I hate RIM/Blackberry and am actively migrating all my users to ActiveSync devices. Android or iPhone, I don't care... it's all better than Blackberry. Sell your stock.

Eh I think the battery issue is on the way to being solved. You have the Droid Razr Maxx, which has shown you can shove a big ass battery in a phone without it looking weird/being huge. Seriously the thing has over twice the mAh of a iPhone 4s. Reports are that you can use it for 8+ hours with LTE on.

As someone who just moved 400 users to iPhones to avoid legacy costs of RIM licensing i salute you.

you know what is funny about this whole shake up. the previous CEO's just moved down in title. The one guy went on to head the "innovation department." can you believe that? a guy who ran them into the ground is now in charge of innovation?
