Don't want to jog your failing memory, but Gadaffi was a known enemy that killed many of our citizens.

2012-01-27 08:31:24 AM
Yeah, but now it's Freedom Torture, right? Just like the US.

I can't find the picture online anywhere, but I still remember seeing a card left at a makeshift memorial in either Lockerbie or London that read "To the little girl in the red dress that made ,my flight from Frankfurt such fun, you did not deserve this."

So yeah, fark that guy sideways. Glad he's dead. But still, it would be nice if the people of Libya got something better instead of the same/worse.

We still get their oil, right?

nekom: it would be nice if the people of Libya got something better instead of the same/worse.

It would, but they have to do that for themselves. As far as I'm concerned, we took out an enemy and gave them a chance.

Yes, we all know that a people brutalized by a dictator were simply nice, innocent people minding their own business.

Arab Spring != Democracy and Due Process.

So, spreading democracy just any old place maybe isn't a good idea?

That probably helped get the Europeans mobilized, and we took the opportunity. Forgive and forget if you want to, but I'm glad he's gone.

On that much, we agree.

Exactly. Right now it's up to them to make their country what they want. It doesn't need to be democracy, it just needs to be better than it was. Frankly, I'd rather the US keeps out of this one as much as possible.

Qaddafi = freedom fighter, That's why Obama hated him. Plus oil

2012-01-27 08:49:48 AM
As long as those who authorized torture are duly elected, it's okay.

Amirite America?

Their country, their problem.

Hey guys, is this going to be a "Muslims are all savages who are incapable of behaving in a civilized way" thread? Because you know, I'm totally up for one of those today.

Wow, the liars and hypocrites at brietbart are using amnesty international as the whole basis for their argument... apparently they are credible if it makes fartbongo look bad.

It's funny 'cause it's true. I see little difference between the Middle East and Planet P.

Impasse: We still get their oil, right?

If you're European, you still get it. If you're American, you don't - but you didn't get it before either.

Less than 5% of their oil is exported to the US. About 75% went to Europe.

American oil companies do all of their business in America, so the regime change doesn't help them one bit. It was all about taking down a bad guy. Why can't those stoopid lib'ruls see that?

2012-01-27 09:23:45 AM
It's 'their' country, and if their people are okay with the people in charge going around torturing their citizens and they're not rising up to get rid of them...then who're we to say anything about it?

It's hard for the U.S. to comment on governments who use torture, after all.

Thanks, George Bush.

so breitbart is pro-qaddafi? why am i not surprised...

remember, if obama is for it - even if it's puppies, apple pie and oxygen - conservatives are against it!

So are we supposed to stay in Libya for years and "help" them "build" their country (as a puppet state), or are we supposed to stay away and minimize losses (which are currently at 0 for us) while letting them actually act as a sovereign nation of people and not another farking toy in the United States' personal sandbox.

Bloody William: "So are we supposed to stay in Libya for years and "help" them "build" their country ... or are we supposed to stay away and minimize losses"

Does it matter?
The news is going to sex it up as a horrible thing either way to get clicks and the politicians are going to lob bombs at each other for supporting a different plan than their own.

The last thing anyone cares about is what's *actually* good for Libya.

ringersol: The last thing anyone cares about is what's *actually* good for Libya.

Most ironically, this apathy seems to include the Libyan people.

Then again, try being ruled by an 150 year or so long string of ruthless military dictatorships (often endorsed and supported by your "betters" in purportedly civilized countries elsewhere in the world) and then see how you feel about the merits of Democracy.

They tend to roll with what they know works, what has worked all this time. Just shut up and don't say anything bad 'bout our strongman and you won't find yourself disappeared sometime near the ass crack of dawn, citizen.

We don't want to talk about Libya....move along citizens.

BTW....look over there, some Superbowl Commercial stories

How was Lybia not a sovereign nation before the US/European military intervention?

I don't know if you're trolling and/or taking a shot at Bush but you've asked a very good question. I'm glad Kadaffi is worm food, but the future for the common everyday Libyan is likely to be no different than than the one faced by the common everyday Iraqi post-2003. Simply living is now going to be a lot more difficult and dangerous.

So what is the proper response once we've broken something? Trying to fix it or saying "good luck y'all, gotta go now, sorry for the mess?"

No, I'm pretty sure I understood your point just fine, ya incorrigible little scamp, you.

*musses hair*

Very clever of you.

This may very well be true - I'm not exactly convinced of the NTC's commitment to democracy and human rights - but Breitbart's not a credible source on, well, ANYTHING. If he cared about checking the truth before running stories, ACORN would still be around.
