There is no scenario in which Terminator 5 is a good idea. There is no rating that will make it a good idea. There is no marketing campaign that makes it a good idea. That franchise has been Christian Baled to death, there can be no triage and any attempts at reviving it are best described as "foolish waste of money."

I Read that in Reese's voice.
Movies get away with a lot of violence nowadays. Besides the T-1000 shoving a blade into someone's face a couple times, the violence in the previous films was pretty much just people getting shot, which is well within the PG-13 guidelines. Just don't use the eff word more than twice or show a boobie.

Where could a T5 possibly take place story wise ? T4 killed the future man vs machine scenario. T1,2,3 covers 1984 thru the nuclear war. Are they gonna' try something like the "Back to the Future" sequels and have people acting behind the scenes of the first three movies ? You can't use ANY of the actors without coming up for a reason for them to have aged 10-30 years and since the title character is a damned robot you can't use THAT actor at all.
You are left with the prospect of a "Terminator" sequel without Ahnold unless he's CGI.

Don't care really. The series ended with 2 as far as I'm concerned.

Wouldn't work either unless it was an 80's period piece. The killing all the Sara Conners in the order they appear in the phone book ? The gunstore scene means they have to relocate the story to Texas or someplace like it instead of California. Nobody can have a working cell phone for some reason or the whole plan to kill Sara Conner flops after the 2nd victim.
This attempt at a reboot will crater worse than a "Red Dawn" one.

actually, I think there is one thing that could save the Terminator franchise. That's if they show us the actual Dark Future and the real War Against the Machines. I want to see them make a movie that has Rob the Robot with giant freakin lasers and the humans being hunted. The T1000's fighting whats left of the humans. The final attack on Skynet and sending Reese back in time. That to me is the only thing Terminator needs to do to save its self

Yes!
The intro to the original Terminator (the prologue), Michael Biehn....resistance fighter....still fighting in that universe; extended to the story of them finding the time machine and all the non-skinned 'cyborgs' in an all out battle. Movie ends with Biehn going back in time, and then as a possible twist - not sure how they can do it - a continuation of T2:3D.

I don't care what a movie is rated as long as it has a good script, and I have a different view of what a good script is than most people on the internet because I enjoy almost every movie I see, even the last two terminators.
I hate to see lot of six, violence and bad language just for the sake of having it rated R. I don't mind a little bad language in movies but sometimes too much bad language can be distracting if it's unrealistic. The same with the blood and guts violence it distracts me from the story if it's unreal, unless it's a movie like kill bill were it was sort of a joke or a movie like the Expendables or Rambo where that's what to movie is about instead of being about the story. Terminator I kind of want to be about the story, I know Terminator movies are kind of weak in the story dept. but still, it's kinda there, the story is almost, but not quite like it's not just there as an excuse for a dumb popcorn action movie .
As far a nudity goes, I can't stand it in my action movies, it really distracts me, if I know it's there I'm just waiting on it, not paying attention to what's going on.
That's what independent and foreign movies are for, so we can watch porn and say we're not watching porn and look smart at the same time, I don't need it in my action flicks

Are they ditching T3 and 4 and rather extending The Sarah Connor Chronicles into a theatrical series? No? Not interested. It's the only legitimate sequel to the original two as far as I'm concerned.

Sure.
Even though the last one kind of sucked, I wouldn't mind a future war movie that tied everything together and ending with Reese and Terminator 1.0 being sent back int time. But then they'd have to explain why if the terminator went back first, time didn't instantly change and Reese wouldn't have a chance to go back after him. And put Summer Glau in there somewhere.

This. The show at least had something interesting to say. And it was smart with plotlines that really dove into AI, the messianic/ruthless war leader aspect of John Conner, and cyborg-human alliances. At least it didn't insult our intelligence with cyborgs that need a goddamn human heart for some daft reason.

Coming the week after Sylvester Stallone confirmed that The Expendables 2 was to be a PG-13 movie, at the behest of Chuck Norris
Good gods, is there anything that Chuck Norris can't fark up just by being part of it? Seriously, no one even cares about his nutty tea-party whack-job evangelical self anymore. Stallone would have done better by getting the original American Ninja Michael Dudikoff and telling Norris to just go back to writing wharblgharb for whatever fringe end-times religious blog he's affiliating with this month.

I seriously doubt that Chuck Norris had any say in the rating of the film. They have assholes in suits who work for the studio that do that. They figure a PG-13 film by definition will get a larger audience than an R rated film. That's why the last Die Hard and the last Terminator films were PG-13 (although in a backlash, apparently the next Terminator will be rated R). Chuck Norris did make comments about the profanity needing to be toned down, which is just hilarious for obvious reasons.
...I don't even think I saw a Chuck Norris film, come to think of it. I saw all the Arnold and Stallone movies but Norris just seemed kind of gay. NTTAWWT.

I agree that TSCC is the only version of the story that still has room left for an additional movie. Following that timeline, there's an interesting situation that was laid out and abandoned when the show got canceled. Also, there's a cast in place that's still pretty much age-appropriate for their roles, so there could be some continuity and appeal to existing fans, without worrying about how you explain Arnold and Linda Hamilton being so old.

At this point, why the frak not? Bring back the original plot of T4. He can even be of Catherine Weaver's second or third generation of John Henrybots. Bring the 'trying to stop humans by becoming too human' full circle a second time. Skynet wanted to get rid of humans? If you become that which you hate in eliminating that which you hate,....

Agree wholeheartedly. I don't know how they screwed this up in Terminator: Salvation. The movie took place in the broad daylight (for the most part) and was totally lacking the "endless piles of human skulls" factor of the original movies' flashbacks. It just didn't feel like a Terminator film

They made the Dark Future an alternate universe now cause the world didn't end when it was suppose to, according to Reese. So when they stopped the development of the robotic arm and chip, they postponed judgement day. Therefore, creating an alternate universe in which the Dark Future became the Bright Desert Future.

In other words, they didn't have the budget to shoot the Dark Future war filled with skulls and exoskeletons running around blasting people with plasma rifles so they just took a weekend and shot it in the same desert in the outskirts of California that they shoot everything.
