James Scameron: Imagine how good Cliff Burton would have been with a better bus driver!

Hmmm.... Let's see: die after recording the first 3 albums or live to play the current Metallicrap?

Nah, he definitely got the better deal.

I don't trust a damn word Hogan says. Everytime he talks about Wrestlemania III, Andre the Giant gains 500 pounds and dies sooner.

"AT MANIA 3, BROTHER, I BODYSLAMMED THE 460,000 POUND GIANT, BROTHER, AND HE DIED FIVE SECONDS BEFORE HE LANDED, BROTHER! BROTHER BROTHER BROTHER JACK DUDE BROTHER!"

"Played in a crappy Florida bar band" ≠ "session musician"

By the time Metallica got started in the early 80s, Hogan's wrestling career was already well established. Hell, he'd already been in Rocky III - I doubt he'd be willing to give that up to play with some obscure metal band.

I heard they didn't hire him because whenever Metallica started playing the "Four Horsemen", Ric Flair, Ole and Arn Anderson, and Tully Blanchard would come out from beside the stage and beat down everyone in the band..

I've heard the Hulkster play bass and guitar. He's...good. Nothing special. No way he has/had the chops to play with Metallica, and I'm not really a Metallica fan.

You're just making up dates.. aren't you?
Lars started trying to get Metallica together in 1981..
Hogan didn't win the world title until 1984

Now, I'm not saying that he wasn't a big deal in 1980.. but he was a bad guy and not well loved. He disappeared from the WWF for 3 or 4 years at that point. The meeting COULD have happened.... it probably didn't... but it COULD have.

In 1981 he was selling out arenas for the AWA plus getting 10 grand a week in New Japan. He was gonna give that up for an upstart band making no money?

I'll let my man Gorilla Monsoon answer this one

Hogan was already main-eventing with the WWF in 1980... he wasn't popular per se, but he was already making a rep for himself between the US and his gig with New Japan which is what got him the Rocky III role to begin with. The idea that he'd throw this away for a band that didn't even exist on paper in 1981, comprised of guys no one knew outside a handful of bars in LA, is patently absurd.

I like to think he would have left the band along the same lines as Jason did, or he would have eventually choked on his own vomit anyway

I'm sorry I missed this. After 6 hours, I decided you'd let it go. It means a lot to me that you spent the time on this. Your score jumps to a 5. If you can talk a modmin into switching my handle to BoondawgOld45, you've got yourself a bona fide 10.
