(miami new times) Florida If you're publishing a high school newspaper article about the dangers of STD's, it's probably best to use a commercial stock photo rather than a picture of a former student   (blogs.miaminewtimes.com) divider line 27

Or don't use a picture of a person. Or you can just not run pictures with that article and use them with some other article instead. Or use a picture of a staff member who doesn't care.

/who reads a HS paper?

IAmRight: Or use a picture of a staff member

How's the teacher supposed to sleep with the students if they all think she's got an STD?

"Uhmmm, yes... Mr. College Advisor? Cancel all those college loans I applied for... I think I've got'em covered. In fact, push back that Spring starting date to Fall semester because if this works out, I might not even need to go!"

No one.. outside your entire peer group. Even people who don't normally read the school paper will if there is something they can torment someone with.

I've done a couple one-off gigs for stock photo agencies and so far, I haven't seen those photos in any publications or websites, although they did tell me that the one set of photos was supposed to be used for a Canadian government brochure for public health or something like that. I'm hoping like HELL that it's not used for something like erectile dysfunction, genital herpes, or some other sexual health issue.

Our high school had a student-produced cable-access channel. We all had to watch the "news" show during home room. One of their spots involved a video of a girl walking down a hallway. I don't remember what the spot was about, but I do remember one thing. They set the piece to "Barbie Girl" without the girl's permission. Suspension ensued.

They could just GIS the picture disease they are writing about and use one of those pics.

And those pictures will teach the high school kids not to be so cavalier about STDs.

Actually, I think this isn't so bad. Admittedly it does kinda single this guy out and maybe they should have used someone who had moved away or gotten permission of the parents of some local deceased kid. But it does drive home the point that people you know have STD's and you can't tell just by looking at them.

Some of my students asked me why they had to learn defensive driving; they want to be able to drive however they want. One kid even made the point that he didn't like defensive driving because he wasn't on the defense, he was a running back. As a rebuttal, I asked anyone in the class who had ever caused a wreck - caused, not just been in, to raise their hand. Three students out of a class of about 25 did. I then said "You see these guys? You drive to and from the same parking lot as them five times a week. That's why you don't trust the other guy's driving skills." Similarly, you shouldn't trust that that nice guy you met at the bar has always worn a hoody.

I used to work for a talent agency that booked a client to appear in an industrial video for Viagra. He did the job, then started freaking out because it suddenly occurred to him that friends or family might see the video and think he had erectile dysfunction.

It was hilarious.

Unless it's a spot about immunizations or donating blood, you've got the hep I'm afraid.

I'm shocked at this kid's stupidity...I mean girls like bad boys.....being STD boy would probably have got him laid in 90 seconds at my high school....

2012-01-27 10:30:54 AM
Ok, now I'm really curious. STD's what?

2012-01-27 11:49:40 AM
So the real question is: Does he actually have an STD, and if so, which one(s)?
