Subby, Apple's SuperBowl commercial was amazing and standard-setting. Objectively, no one has ever gotten close to that level of poignancy in a commercial since.
So it would be a mistake to say there were no commercials that weren't dumb because there was at least one that was outstanding.

What about the monkey from the dot com years? He made two appearances. If I recall correctly, the first one, he was dancing in a garage. The second year, he was riding a horse through an empty western town. I don't even remember what he was trying to sell
Dumb monkeys. Never even learned to evolve. Got thumbs, uses rudimentary tools but can't use fire. Big stumbling block. Keeps you in the trees and cold. Can't migrate or forge tools and weapons to defeat predators and aliens.

Best Superbowl Ad hands down. I never heard so many people in a public place laugh at once at a commercial.

Anya Major (born 1966, in UK) is an athlete and actress who starred in Apple Computer's famous "1984" commercial, and who appeared as Nikita in the video to Elton John's song of the same name.
In 1983, the Chiat/Day advertising agency held a casting call in London, on behalf of their client, Apple Computer, for what would prove to be a landmark television commercial. The vision of the agency and director Ridley Scott stipulated an actress capable of running up to a large video screen, swinging a sledgehammer in a wide spin, and releasing it at the video screen. Unfortunately, most of the models and actresses tested could not wield the clumsy hammer, much less throw it; in fact, one errant throw nearly struck a passerby at the Hyde Park casting call.[1] The petite Major, an experienced discus thrower who had been discovered at a local health club, won the role with her ability to handle the hammer convincingly.[2]
The commercial aired only twice on American television, most famously just after half-time of Super Bowl XVIII on January 22, 1984.[1] Even with this limited appearance, the ad created such a media frenzy that it gained many subsequent free TV airings and print mentions as it was discussed in the media.
Major later portrayed "Nikita" in the Elton John 1985 music video of the same name.[3] As a spin-off, she released a single named Moscow Nights using the name Anya.[4]
She could throw a mean hammer, icy communist glance.

I have never understood why people watch the Super Bowl just for the commercials. People spend the rest of the year avoiding commercials like a plague, but somehow think that the commercials during the Super Bowl are magically going to be better. I have news for you...it's the same damn commercials! Maybe they are brand new for the Super Bowl, but then you see them over and over and over. And really if I have to see another stupid Gecko, Caveman or "Priceless" commercial, I'm going to strangle somebody.

I've clicked through the slideshow so you don't have to, but I'm not sure I got them all:
1. SalesGenie.com "Panda Cartoon" (2008)
2. Just For Feet, "Kenya Mission" (1999)
3. Groupon, "Save the Money" (2011)
4. Apple, "Lemmings" (1985, follow-up to its legendary "1984" commercial)
5. Burger King, "Herb" (1986)
6. SalesGenie.com, "Office Worker Cartoon" (2007)
7. Nuveen Investments, "Christopher Reeve Walks" (2000) (#1 in my book)
8. LifeMinders.com, "The Worst Commercial" (2000)
9. Holiday Inn, "Bob Johnson," (features a cross dresser and stars the Kenny Bania guy from Seinfeld) (1997)
Seems like the most
forgettable
Super Bowl commercials to me.

The Herb commercials were cool. People actually wanted to meet Herb.. and the Bleacher Report used "to" instead of "too" on that page. I can't understand why a money making website can't get that right.
Actually sorta in a bad mood now. My wife most secretly hate me.

No, it doesn't. Saying something is the dumbest makes no implication there's anything in the class that's smart, kind of like
subtard's
logic class. Example: "shortest pygmy", says nothing about the existence of tall pygmies, just that all other pygmies, while remaining short, are taller than them.

The commercials were great when it was the one time of year when a company could go all-out and make a crazy ad that people would talk about for days. But this is the age of YouTube. We expect more from ads that are supposed to be clever or grandoise enough for this sort of stage - and they're falling flat because the things we watch online they just can't get away with on TV. Let's be honest; without the pesky FCC and the uptight assholes not letting the rest of us have fun, the collection of Super Bowl commercials would look like an episode of Tosh.0.

This is not how comparatives work. When I say that something is the dumbest dumb thing, I'm not implying that there are dumb things that aren't dumb. That would be DUMB.

Are you kidding me? That second one was one of the funniest. It was after the dot-com bust, and he's riding through the shuttered buildings of failed dot-coms (pimentoloaf.com, for example). One place has the pets.com sock puppet flying through the air, courtesy of a wrecking ball. The sock puppet lands at his feet and he picks it up, then parodies the Crying Indian.
