The store manager is committing fraud, and should lose not only her job, but her career over this.
As for the idiot who alleges that they were stupid enough to throw the ticket away... TOO FARKING BAD. You LOSE!

I'd take it. Cash it. And give it to my favorite charity. Then, probably go to church and thank the good Lord that my life didn't get any better or any worse and that he look down on those that need it.
You may hate me and my religion, but easy come, easy go. Curses can come in the form of supposed blessings. Don't covet your neighbors and be thankful for what you have. Money isn't happiness. Look around you and count all the things that are good.

The fact that this woman purchased a used car instead of a loaded Mercedes tells me a lot. She probably will use the money wisely. These other two goons ought to have their cases tossed with extreme prejudice.

If you find a winning ticket, don't tell anyone you found it. Just farking cash it in and shut up. If people know you found it, you know someone is going to try and take it. If she just said she bought it, no one would know and this would be a non-issue.

i hate frivolous lawsuits, but unfortunately if the lady took store property without permission she will probably lose. Stuff in a garbage can inside the store (or even outside but still in the stores container/dumpster area) has clearly and repeatedly been ruled as private property for a long time.

Unless they prosecuted every bum who went dumpster diving in their bins (or more to the point, when the woman got tickets out of the dumpster the other times), I don't see why they should suddenly be able to enforce it when a winning ticket is involved.

No, she should get all of it, because it's blatantly obvious the other two just made up some bullshiat in the hope she'd settle with them for a quick payday rather than waste her money fighting spurious lawsuits.

Hell, even South Park got the Bible right: "You see, these are just stories - stories that are meant to help people in the right direction. Love your neighbor. Be a good person. That's it!"
And, might I add, don't worry about how well your neighbor is doing in comparison to you. If nobody cared how their "neighbor" was "doing" compared to themselves, the world would be a much better place.
Earn what you have, and be proud of it. If someone has more, so what? We all finish equally.

This.
If you create a lawsuit and are found to have done so in a blatant attempt to get a payday, you should pay. In otherwords if the third woman has zero proof that she is the one that trashed the ticket then she should pay the full amount of the lawsuit.

Fair enough. I've just been around Fark long enough that I know that even bringing up faith-based believes will get one hit with flying spaghetti and such. But I'm a strict, unequivocal supporter of free expression. So I take the spaghetti comments in the same vein of sarcastic humor as my comments were made.
I do believe, however, that we'd all be better off if we stopped worrying about the Joneses and just lived our lives in peace as we were advised to a couple thousand years ago.
Apply that to the story at hand and image the outcome. Then throw your spaghetti.

they can tell when and where the ticket is purchased. So if some skinny white dude comes in with the ticket and some big black dude bought it they won't to know what happened in the inbetween.

Yeah, but I think it's to clear up for just such an issue. The state says whoever has it gets it, but the state did their part to ensure everything is on the up and up. If a lawsuit comes up they have no basis to sue the state. In fact the state can give the courts a better idea of who the money belongs to.

He genuinely thought he had to run one to let me buy the car even though I was paying for the whole thing. Wouldn't back down so I walked. They pestered me for over a month, calling and apologizing. Notsureiftroll... but this principle totally applies to the lottery, and Farkers know it. Suddenly becoming rich is guaranteed to cause bad shiat to happen in your life...
Grifters call you constantly begging for money.
Your university's alumni association suddenly LOVE you (see above).
Friends get awkward.
Strippers burgle your car.
Those relatives you thought liked you are suddenly suing you for $1 million for "pain and humiliation" for when you forgot to bring the turkey at Thanksgiving.
