I caught the hubby last night at the height of laziness. He was laid out on the couch with his hand in his waistband and trying to be the kitty with his foot.

Thank you, very much. :) I'm a very proud auntie.

I was testing out to see if I could figure out how to post a picture, because I wanted to introduce y'all to someone very special to me.

That's my beautiful girl, Snowy. She was with me for 3 years, and was my biggest supporter, constant companion, best furry friend, and at my darkest moments my only reason for living. Last November she developed what I thought was an abscessed tooth, but was instead cancer in her jaw. I had to end her life on December 16th and it was by far the most difficult decision of my life.

I'm grateful to have a place to share her where I know people will respect and understand what it's like to lose someone so close. I think of her every day and hope with all my heart she knows I let her go only because I believed it was what was best for her.

Thank you.

Yeah! Glad to see AlienNarr! Will be moving soon. Sounds like you need to hit the January white sales!

Sorry to hear of kittehs passing...my parents had a cat who had jaw cancer. She defied the prognosis for 8 months of relatively happy life. It never gets easier. And it should not. It is a sign of your love that you grieve.

And now, got to go put on clothes...I mean, leave my granny flannel where Eli can sleep on it.

Hai everybody!
So, it's been two weeks since I lost my sweet girl Avah, but she may have sent me a new buddy.

Four days ago, my friend found a wee, starving and scraggly little cow cat under his porch, so he thought of me.
He's kind of attached to her already, but he also has a sick dog and a shaker parrot and they're all crammed into his packed house. I offered to take her to his vet today to get scanned for a chip and make sure somebody isn't missing her.

I'm a bit worried. Avah had lymphoblastic leukemia, likely from undiagnosed FeLV. I've disinfected her litter box and carrier and cleaned the whole house, but I'm wondering if it's safe to bring in another cat? If no one claims new kitty (who I've temporarily named "Lucy"), I'll definitely get her checked out, make sure she's not FIV or FeLV positive or have any other nasties, and get her vaccinated. Plus, I'm still missing Avah terribly and sort of feel guilty. :(

Anyone have any insights?

Here's a pic of who's waiting for me at the bridge.

John Buck 41: Sickapie: Good Meowning everybuddy. Back from my trip to glorious Springfield, IL. We went there to visit Mr. Pie's parents. Hit a bad ice storm last week on the way there, and did about 20 mph for awhile. Saw one crazy guy in a van going too fast and wound up hydroplaning sideways to the left, then to the right for about 1/4 mile. So many people in ditches. Scary stuff. But, we got there and back fine and had a great time. Hope everyone had a good week!

[i1095.photobucket.com image 500x375]">

Amazes me that some people don't know how to drive in the shiat. Or if they don't, discontinue driving PERIOD. Farking idiots.

On the way to work this AM (18 miles) I saw the aftermath of one accident and one actually happening in my rear view mirror.

Just because you drive a 4WD or SUV, it doesn't make you invincible. SLOW THE FARK DOWN!

I know, right?! Crazy. Ice is ice, stoopids.

I lost my Eatbugs last Tuesday. 16 years of friendship. He was with me through thick and thin. He was my Hobbes.

He was the smartest cat I've ever met. He "just knew" how things were. But he was such a sweet guy the thought of using his knowledge for evil would never have crossed his mind in a million years. All he ever wanted was some nipper, some of that crappy canned food (which he loved but I only gave to him on special occasions), some treats, and some quality time curled up with me. Just food in his bowl and some love. He was a simple guy.

Eatbugs used to sing at night sometimes. He'd walk through the house talking to himself. One night Wakko, our big bruiser ginger tomcat (RIP), had had enough of the singing... so he got down off the bed... went in to the room where Eatbugs was singing... there was a scuffle and hiss... then Wakko came back to bed and went to sleep. Funniest damn thing!

On Christmas night Eatbugs suffered a possible stroke. I freaked out when I saw him walking funny, like he couldn't control his back legs, and the look on his face was one of confusion and pain. I took him to the emergency clinic, but he was better by the time we got there. But he had declined rapidly since then.

On Monday I made the decision. I couldn't stand to see him suffer any more. He was just skin and bones, and unsteady on his feet. You could tell that he was just tired. I made an appointment with his vet for Tuesday morning.

I cried all Monday night. It was a decision I hated and the impending loss of my best friend was crushing my heart.

I found him Tuesday morning in the living room as I was about to collect him and go to the vet. I had heard the labored breathing from my bed room. He was already gone and I could see it in his eyes, but his body was still struggling to live. Ten minutes before he had been watching me get ready in the bathroom, meowing at me. Why didn't I go tom him then? He died on my lap in the car on the way to the vet. My hand on his shoulder, scratching his chin.

I walked into the vet's office with him and they sat us in the same room where we held Sunshine during her last minutes. I only wish my face had been the last thing he saw.

I love you Boo. More than anything.

True Story for Caturday:

I volunteer at the local humane society on Sunday afternoons, and noticed that one of our feline residents had been at the shelter for 3 months after being surrendered by his previous owners. Wanting to get to know our adoptable critters, I pulled his paperwork out of the file so I'd be able to talk him up to potential adopters.

Apparently, his former owners though he was "slow and a bit odd" (their words). They alleged that he had killed the power in their home by peeing on an outlet strip or something. The best one, though, was the claim that the cat had "tried to burn the house down while [they] slept." Kid you not!

After we started promoting the big guy as "pyro cat," he found a good home and will have many happy Caturdays.

Also, gratuitous photo: my mom's kitty Moxie. Very sweet kitty who apparently has a large stuffed monkey that she throws into the air and chases with great joy.

I like to report my kitties are doing good at the new house, they've adjusted well and love having a basement to play in.

Heidi and Frog keep on trying to have sex though they are fixed. It's funny, they "talk" for a while, then lick each other. Frog then gets on top and get a very confused look on his face when nothing happens and Heidi kicks him off. It's like they're married. :)

Callie on the other hand is still adjusting to people (she was a friendly feral) she will only let us pick her up in the morning when we feed her and is still skittish with people.

Any advice on socializing her better?

Will she play with you? I am finding play is the best way to socialize with Pico, who's been with us since New Year's day. At first, he bit me constantly and neurotic. He was in a shelter with 44 dogs and no cats so he needed to be isolated. Play time has helped him to learn boundaries and get out his energy. Once he's tuckered out, I can be affectionate with him. Now, when he thinks about biting me, he's a lot gentler or thinks better of it

Zero Exponent: Do not trust reporters, kids. I got written up at work and warned by my supervisor to never talk to the press again. Still ... totally worth it because I can sleep soundly knowing Toby has a home where he is wanted and loved.

Your supervisor wrote you up for talking to the press about a cat? As long as you did not violate patient privacy or the terms of your contract (Does your contract state that you cannot talk to the press?), the supervisor cannot write you up. Your employer can only limit your right to free speech when your speech violates patient privacy/confidentiality.

Is this the supervisor who didn't want the therapy cat to stay? Sounds like she/he is embarrassed by the publicity of his/her insensitivity towards an animal.

I know you probably don't want to start something with this person, but you have the right to write a rebuttal and have it placed with the write-up in your personnel file.

Your supervisor is an @$$ and you are a hero for championing the cause of a helpless creature. I admire your courage.
