2. Patriots Streaking
The Patriots rode an 18 game winning streak into Super Bowl XLII, an undefeated record for the entire year. This year's club couldn't pull that off, but once again is sporting an impressive streak. Since the setback to the Giants in Week 9, the Patriots have reeled off 10 straight victories.

So in other words, the Super Bowl is between two teams that are on winning streaks, having beaten the other best teams in their respective conferences in earlier playoff rounds, behind good performances from their quarterbacks.
IT'S A FARKING CONSPIRACY.

I know Patriots fans are probably eager to get some revenge on the Giants, but part of them has to be really nervous about the possibility of losing to them again, and what that would look like on Brady and Belicheck's record. 4-1 in Super Bowls vs. 3-2. Getting to 5 is amazing, but that 3-2 looks a hell of a lot worse than 4-1.
Another thing to think about, right now Brady is 2-2 against the Manning brothers in the playoffs. A loss would drop him to 2-3, with those 3 losses coming in an AFC championship and possibly two Super Bowls. Conversely, a win would make him 1-1 in AFC championships, and 1-1 in the Super Bowl against the Manning's, which would look a lot better.
What I'm trying to say is this Super Bowl is really important for the perception of Brady's career as a whole, as well as his career against his most notable rivals, the Manning family (I guess you could throw in the Jets too, but I don't know the numbers). Unless you're one of those rational people who don't grade a Quarterback's career solely on these types of statistics in such a team-oriented game.

This stuff doesn't really merit nitpicking, but calling Farve's overtime interception and Williams' overtime fumble "unforced turnovers" strikes me as highly inaccurate. To me an unforced turnover comes from something like a botched snap or a fumble without contact.

I agree that one was unforced, but the one in overtime which he refers to was knocked loose during the return.

You know what I find intermazing (that's a combination of interesting AND amazing) that for each of the last 8 alternating even numbered Sundays Eli Manning has been Bradyesque on at least as many occasions.

So there is no rivalry between that family and Brady? None at all? Talking about Brady vs Manning, be it Peyton or Eli, is a subject that will never come up? I'm just pointing out some numbers about a subject that football fans like to talk about and might find interesting. So you don't have to be a dick about it.

Sorry, didn't mean to, I meant "retarded" more colloquially/benignly, if that's believable. Still though, while there is Brady vs. Manning talk, I don't think too many people put Eli + Peyton on one side of the equation unless they're trying to prop up Brady. If anything, a Giants win would reignite the Eli vs. Peyton discussion, and maybe talk of Eli alone catching up to Brady.

Honest question: do people in new York honestly respect Eli "my daddy told me I could play" manning?
Honest question: do people in San Diego honestly still give a shiat about a draft that took place over seven years ago?
Since at least
one of you
appantly does, let's recap:
Archie Manning felt that Eli had a better chance to win in New York, that he couldn't win a Super Bowl in San Diego. The Chargers stubbornly drafted him anyway and then got what most at the time considered a king's ransom to orchestrate the trade.
The Chargers got rid of Drew Brees, now one of the best quarterbacks in the game. Their prized possession, Philip Rivers, is a
whining little crybaby
who, though talented, cannot get his act together. They got a kicker who chokes away important late season kicks. And Meriman, who was never the same once he stopped using the roids.
The team has always been said to have talent and plays in the weakest division in football and they cannot sniff the playoffs. Yet, everyone involved gets hired back for another year!!!
Meanwhile, Manning has yet to have a sub .500 season in New York, has made the playoffs every year since he became a starter save for two (one of them after winning 11 games) and has two Super Bowl appearances and at least one win.
So I ask you, bitter San Diego Charger fan: What on earth has history shown us that disproves Archie Manning's concerns about San Diego being a shiatty organization that would not compete?
Instead of holding a grudge against Eli Manning, I suggest you start holding your own team and organization accountable for their many failures.

This New Yorker loves him. He's a gifted athlete, yes, but he is not the same as some of the other people around him. He's not the perfect pretty boy QB - Romo, Rodgers or Brees. He doesn't mind taking huge hits. He escapes tackles. He spreads balls around and doesn't just look for huge bombs. He makes mistakes but he doesn't let mistakes rattle him. He's extremely humble about his success, and passes the victories off to his team mates. He makes things happen where lesser QBs wouldn't - that Hail Mary at the end of the Green Bay game being a perfect example.
What I like best about him is how unfazed he gets about everything. He takes whatever he's given and makes the best of it. And best of all: he does it quietly. Even the ads he does he is not the star (see his NY area Toyota ads).
I think if he could be Eli Johnson instead of Eli Manning, he would be thought of as a first rate QB anywhere. His name carries a whole lot more bagage for him then help IMHO.

Here's one difference.
The patriots 10 game win streak was over a series of 2nd and 3rd string QBs and/or very bad teams...and they beat the Broncos and Ravens (two not-so-potent offenses) in the playoffs.
/So if the Giants decide to play their back up (or Tim Tebow) I think the patriots are a lock....otherwise, this game is a toss up.

This. Hell, Stafford was drafted to the 0-16 Lions and didn't pitch a fit. Eli and Archie are whiny biatches. "Oh, boo hoo, I am going to get paid millions to play a sport even though it is a team that is run poorly." If he hated it that badly, just get an office job like the rest of us.
What if Andrew Luck refuses to go to the Colts, and instead wants a trade to the Ravens? It is a terrible precedence to set.
