For over a year? Is he trying to push the appeal hearing back until a real Republican is president or what?

It looks like his sentencing just came through on the 10th. Imagine if every felon could stay out of jail as long as they were appealing their conviction?

This is the attack Romney should use: He was kicked out for not being a conservative. And we already had a Bill Clinton in the white house.

"What has been said about Newt is pretty much true," DeLay said. "He had to step down because conservative Republicans wouldn't vote for him again as speaker ... because he's not really a conservative."

"He'll tell you what you want to hear," DeLay continued. "He has an uncanny ability, sort of like (Bill) Clinton, to feel your pain and know his audience and speak to his audience and fire them up. When he was speaker, he was erratic, undisciplined."

In fairness, this is the one sense in which Newt can legitimately claim to be a Washington outsider.

Apparently, everyone of either party who ever had the misfortune to work with the man can't stand him.

Yup. Newt sure has the Republican Washington inside establishment running scared. Why? Because he's opened up a lead in this race, which the mainstream media has been remarkably hushed about.

Newt Gingrich is now the front runner for the GOP primary. Why? Because he is an actual conservative, whose main rival can hardly be called conservative at all. Conservative voters know when they try to capture the "center," they lose. When they campaign from the right, they win.

I think what is really interesting is this effort to brand both Mitt and Newt as some how not being true conservatives when it fact they are text book examples.

Conservatives seek to conserve the "old institutions". Which institutions? The one that believes the people need to be controlled and ruled over. The one that believes there is a "certain class" of people that are just inherently better then everyone else. That's what they've always stood for from the beginning of recorded history.

We have the aristocracy represented faithfully by Romney
The boot licking toadies who willingly sell the rest of us down the river to curry favor with the aristocracy represented by Gingrich
The high priest who sees nothing wrong with a little greed and avarice so long as he benefits in Santorum

This isn't rocket surgery. The group of people once called the "GOP base" can't decide which it loathes more...the MSM and talking heads, Obama and the Libs, or the party that opposes it's own platform.

As such, the 'establishment" encompassing the above icons of scorn, realized in 10 that they were all in deep crap since their traditional methods of controlling us failed utterly. Now as we go into the 12 election, they spent the last year trying the same crap to rope us back onto the Ponderosa without success. So they just fall bck on blaming us for our lack of intelligence and 'vision'.

At this point, If Newt was found with a dead girl, a live boy and the family Schnauzer, I'd still crawl naked over cut glass to vote for him if for no other reason than to watch their Utopia burn.

Notice how in the graphic I posted, Newt isn't just in the lead. Romney's also trending sharply downward. Newt is winning, and has positive momentum. Romney is losing, and has negative momentum.

As Nate Silver at Five Thirty Eight points out, the voters do not decide the Republican nomination. Read "Did Gingrich's Win Break the Paradigm?" This view is eloquently explained in the book "The Party Decides," by the political scientists Marty Cohen and others.

IMO Republicans need to vote their cause. They tell me that their cause is not off shore bank accounts for the wealthy. They tell me that their cause is not letting the already rich get extremely rich from predatory banking. So break the paradigm, vote Gingrich.

Newt is the GOP's bachelor party. He's the crazy they mess around with a little before they settle down with someone more presentable. Newt won't be the nominee, let alone have a shot at the big chair.

Newt will be the nominee, because he's a viable alternative to the pro-choice Massachusetts moderate. He's more viable in the general than Romney, because Romney just doesn't have the support of his own party. He's been campaigning for years now, and spent millions and millions of dollars. And he hasn't made any headway with them. He's got nothing to show for it.
