I love that today a report came out showing that life was more free and better for citizens under Mubarak than the current military rule. And it's not like the MB in power is gonna make things better.

Say hello to the new boss, same as the old boss (or actually possibly worse)

It would be kinda neat to have your very own, real-life Seal Team 6 action set.

So they were working for NGOs that weren't legally registered in the country and also getting paid. Did they have the right kind of work visas.... because if they didn't, they are illegal aliens taking Egyptian jerbs.

Ray LaHood is one of the most inarticulate douchebags I've ever seen in a cabinet position. I feel bad for his son and his son's family though. Seems a tenuous, and bad situation.

indeed it is tough to be a democracy activist in times of military dictatorships...

Really they just threatened to review their billion dollar funding of their military? When they refused to let americans leave they should have immediately frozen all their cash in the states, stopped any shipments of military equipment, and stopped payment to them.

They should never fark around with ploys designed to extort more money.

I don't get what the big deal is.

They have been banned from leaving the country while judicial authorities investigate charges against them. Given our massive aid, I am sure that if we wanted to, we could reach some diplomatic solution that ends in them leaving the country without charges, but that takes a little time and negotiations.

Just because we give billions to a country does not mean we have extraterritoriality or other privileges. Our citizens have to obey the rule of law when overseas, but again, given our relationship with Egypt, I am sure that we will be able to sort all this out pretty quickly, without the need to call in "Seal Team 6" or change our strategic foreign policy objectives. Just give it a little time.

Can we please get this right? It's DEVGRU, not Seal Team 6. These are no longer the days of Counterstrike my friends.

/these teams have a lot of Delta, PJs, etc anyways, not just SEAL teams.

Yeah. As soon as that revolution was declared 'successful,' I knew that the days of being 'allied' with Egypt were over.

Why do you refuse to give credit to Seal Team 6? They're the ones putting their lives on the line.

Ah, yes. You just gotta love the smell of an Arab Spring day! I can't believe that President Obama is actually bragging about this shiat. We're about to be faced with a problem Middle East and Northern Africa that will make the Taliban and al-Qaeda seem like a bunch of prissy schoolboys.

And since the operation to kill OBL went splendidtly, time to use 'ol DEVGRU as a political tool to shore up the Obama administration in a conspicuous weak spot. Yes, given what is driving it, this policy is almost certain to end well.

I'd bet that they were likely CAG teams who did all the dirty work here. They use SEAL Team 6 in their press briefs because it sounds cool and the public is familiar with the SEALs. The line between who gets called (DEVRU/CAG) is blurry, but since CIA ran the OBL mission I'd put $20 on it being a CAG team, not the SEALS or DEVRU.

While our special forces are generally all kinds of awesome, my favorites are the PJs. Astoundingly in shape and Insanely brave medics who are almost doctors who can kill you 6 ways before you hit the ground.

I've got a buddy who is an Green Beret medic, not PJ, but similar. Training for one of the schools began with a 2 mile 120lbs run, immediately followed by administering 50 IVs. Every day. The medical training these guys go through is pretty astounding. He has never been to college (enlisted with an SF option right out of high school), but Duke has a program set up where they'll take SF Medics after they get out, school them for either two or four semesters (can't remember which) and make them certified Physicians Assistants. I know, Duke sucks, but that's a real testament to how well trained these guys are.

Actually, no. DEVGRU is the team formerly known as SEAL Team 6. CAG is a ridiculous named used to refer to the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta, or "Delta Force." There's no blurring of the lines. One is DEVGRU/Seal Team 6, the other is Delta Force.

Whose bright idea was it to allow a son of a US Cabinet Secretary to take a high-profile position among the protesters over there, anyway? This pretty much hands the Egyptian generals a legitimate reason to accuse the US of meddling in Egyptian internal affairs.

Not that we shouldn't be meddling, mind you, but come on, show a little more professionalism about it.

They sound better qualified than 90% of 'real' doctors. So why aren't they given the M and the D??

ExperianScaresCthulhu: They sound better qualified than 90% of 'real' doctors. So why aren't they given the M and the D??

Because they've not gone through all the farking hazing the AMA thinks "MDs" have to go through.

Remember, the AMA doesn't like universities starting new medical programs or lowering the cost of education for Doctors, the ABA likes Law Schools opening, and thats why there are way more new lawyers than doctors every year.

I would have been a 6th generation doctor in my family, couldn't afford it, so this is the generation that broke the tradition (3 generations in Germany, 2 in the US). Three of my cousins did law school when they couldn't afford medical school.

No blurring the lines of who is who, just who gets called on to do what. IE, when we call on DEVRU instead of Delta and vice-versa.

So let them stay there. No need to waste money, time and possibly lives getting these punks out. I see people like this protesting in Korea all the time. People need to remember that when they travel to a foreign country they are guests, and need to mind their own farking business. They have no right to be getting involved in the politics of a foreign nation on their own soil. I know I'd be pretty pissed off if a bunch of Brits came to the US and started getting involved in protests here. If they don't like it here, they are free to go back home.

Yeah.

That's it.

They hate democracy for Arabs.

Nothing to do with the attitudes and actions of the newly empowered Islamicists. Look how much the Christians of Egypt are enjoying the change!

Thankfully people have you to expose the dastardliness of the Israeli right.

Because in a democracy, a regime that screws up and pisses off the majority of the population will still somehow stay in power-- better do a regime change before things start getting dangerous.

Class warfare. Rich and well connected doctors don't want people getting in on their turf. One of the big battles right now in health care reform is how much you should let PAs and RNs provide care. A lot of money could be saved that way.

The vast majority of healthcare that most people need does not need to be provided by a Doctor. A PA, espeically a military trained PA, could provide it. Now a PA can't do brain surgery, but how many people ever need brain surgery?
