This kind of stuff sucks. Why don't they just get the people who design character costumes in video games a fashion show instead? At least a lot of it doesn't suck.

Submitter,

check out the people of wallmart blog.

You'd be surprized to know what people actually pay money to wear.

Can someone explain how we go from this to college girls in yoga pants and spandex? I don't understand the fashion world at all. Well, except for how British women find their hats. That's obvious.

/on second thought, let us skip the explanation and go straight to the girls.

Uh... you guys realize that the majority of that stuff is meant to be costuming? Like, for the performing arts? They then take the capital from that and will modify the less eccentric pieces to conform better with mainstream preferences.

That being said: the majority of people have shiat for tastes.

/saw quite a few decent pieces in there, tardmitter

Most of these shows feature stuff that is never meant to be worn by the general public. These shows are just done to showcase the designers wildest ideas. Imagine it to be like concept clothes. What is developed to be sold, if anything, is a very toned down version of the design.

Fashion is supposed to be stupid and look ugly. After all, in six months they have to convince you that you've spent all your money on clothes that look stupid and you need to buy new clothes.

How is this a billion dollar industry? People don't actually wear these outfits.

This has to be a front for something else.

Fark, not understanding the difference between haute coture and and pret a porter since ever. or at least any time fashion comes up that I have ever seen.

Protip: Think of these things as concept cars, i.e inspiration for what actually gets produced by a designer.

Helena Bonham Carter would look hot in all of these outfits, including the smurf one.

Anyone else? Not so much.

Yes, it is exactly like concept cars, but even concept cars can look remarkably ugly. Risk taking at it's finest, if you will. Some of these actually fail at being visually interesting even. It's far from the worst I've ever seen, but sadly, not the best either.

It's just sad to see such great materials used and yet somehow just miss what most of us look for in design.

Well, yeah, I didn't even read the article. I'm sure it was hideous. Plenty of fashion is hideous, like many concept cars are. It's just people always go 'hurr hurr how can people wear that, those designers must hate women, durr' every time this comes up on Fark.
