It's unwatchable without Steve Carell.

2012-01-26 08:55:02 AM
Correction: This will be the second spinoff.
They already created an Office spin-off by continuing after Steve Carell left.

1) This is a terrible, terrible idea.

2) The only Office "spin-off" I'm aware of, if you can even call it that, is the best network show on TV the last few years.

People will watch it. And really, the only purpose of TV shows is to fill airtime between advertisements, so Mission Accomplished.

Fixed. Too much awkwardness, not nearly enough humor

Creed was one of the original members of the Grass Roots? I did not know that.

Ron Swanson is what they have left. And maybe Community.

I was thinking that it's rare you can make a good series from a secondary character on a hit tv show (like Joey), but then I remembered The Jeffersons, Frasier, Angel, and Daria were all spin offs of secondary characters and those were pretty good shows.

So were Maude (All In The Family) and Rhoda ( The MaryTyler Moore Show) and Fernwood Tonight (MaryHartman,Mary Hartman)all good shows.

The show is generally pretty bad now, but I thought the pool party episode was hilarious.

The only Office spin-off I'd accept would just be about Creed and the zany adventures he goes on.

/seriously, just let the show die already
//hope Parks and Rec doesn't go down this path in the future

Dwight is one of those characters that is best in small doses, so this just seems destined to fail miserably. Even The Ron Swanson and the Tammies Show would wear thin after a few weeks.

This is normally where we rant about good shows being cancelled (Community) for more of the same crap filling up the time-slots. I mean come on, Office, Parks & Rec (pretty good too), and now Schrute Inc.?

I'd honestly prefer Community be canceled this year rather than stay on years past its welcome and put out spinoff drivel like Britta's adventures as a psychologist or Shirley's Christian Crusades with a bastard son and the Cosby kid.

I think the Office now is more watchable than it's been the past few season, if only because it's not as out-right obnoxious. It's certainly past it's prime, but I'm a little shocked people think it's worse off now than it was from season 5-onward.

also, a spin-off centered around Dwight would be terrible.

Perhaps they could dilute him by making it a crossover with Joey.

Exactly. You can't take a pretty unlikeable character like him and do a spin-off and expect it to work. Not unless they somehow find a way to make him a lot more sympathetic, which would pretty drastically change who the character is.

First 3 seasons were good (peaking in the 2nd season) but after Jim and Pam got together, it feels like the writers just gave up and said "we gave you what you wanted... now what?"

I'd like to see it round out with a fourth season, just to keep with the college years theme (check out the clock Abed uses in his rap) and tie up all the loose ends. Stretching beyond four years might have a "Saved By The Bell: The College Years" vibe to it.

still waiting for a network to try and make a universe out of their shows, like Marvel is with its movies. Why not create a world where multiple shows exist within it, even if those characters don't interact every week. It would provide for way more episodes by having crossovers (and they wouldn't seem absurd since they exist in the same city). Plus, I would love to see how one shows decisions would affect another shows plots.

first season is pretty bad, its only watched to setup the characters (just like Parks and Rec). I'd say after they were married, 4th season I think? 5th on it has been going down hill fast. Even after they got together there were some good episodes, and very touching episodes.

Andy was a marginally tolerable supporting character, but I've grown to hate him as the focus of the show. I still DVR The Office, but I've bailed out of an increasing number of episodes; garden party, doomsday, Gettysburg, etc.

This. James Spader is actually great on the show. Mostly because he's his own quirky character without trying to replicate Steve Carrel's quirks. It may be past its prime, but it's still a funny show.

Or am I supposed to just tell everyone, "I liked The Office before it came to America and became mainstream?" For a site that claims to hate hipsters so much, Fark certainly toes this line a lot.

You never saw the BBC original, yet made a point in letting everyone know that the US version sucked? Sorry to disappoint, but if you're an American and you're shiatting on your own country, you're not going to win the hearts of Europeans or intellectual elites. They'll still hate you.

I might be wrong, but I believe he was merely trying to clarify his criticism. By establishing he never watched the original, of which he made no remarks, he was limiting his analysis only to the American version and criticizing it along American TV standards.

Then again I might be wrong and he could have been trying to be a hipster, but that's not the way it read to me.

I think James Spader is the only thing really giving the show any kind of direction, but I still think the show's more enjoyable than it was with Michael for the previous 2 or 3 seasons. The Holly/Michael thing really made me want to throw my remote at the TV.

I watched the US version enough to know that I didn't like it.

I expressed no opinion on the original.

From your kneejerk nationalistic jingoism, I think you need a refreshing beverage:

ABC did this back in the day with their TGIF shows. A few nights had crossovers between the different series.

I think USA could probably get away with this nowadays pretty easily since all of their shows have the same "look". Crossovers would probably work pretty well.

I could put up with "awkward, socially ignorant", but Carrell went way too far into "annoying, petulant child" way too often during his time on The Office.
