^^^^

OMFG, there are PROTESTERS and they're not WHITE!!!!! RUN!

Granted, I'd like to see more video from the scene, as maybe there were threats made and things might have felt more threatening.

This here's the wattle, the emblem of our land.
You can stick it in a bottle,
you can hold it in your hand.

Watching the video it looks like the police and the media made the situation much worse than it should have been.

/come on people, we have cameras! give us something to put on the news!

Had this been the American president, SEAL Team 6 woulda rappelled in from the sky and proceeded to knock some heads.

C'mon, ya know it's true...

Had this been members of the Lokota tribe, the term "protester" would quickly be converted to "terrorist" just as the first hand struck the first restaurant window.

I might agree with the first statement but there seemed to be more "white" folk there than aboriginal....

as for the threat, there wasn't a major one however, i was going to make a statement about aussie cops having been trained in the USA after the cop near the end punched/shoved the aboriginal dude, then i heard the cop say "Put the spear down!". then I saw the aboriginal was carrying a spear.

You'd better run. You'd better take cover.

Thought that this was done pretty professionally -- with the protesters pounding on the glass windows (with the risk of breaking them & causing injury to the protesters themselves), the security team moved the PM (and the oppo leader) out through the crowd quickly and cleanly. It looked like a scheduled event, so the team phalanxed around the protectees to reduce the risk of a whackadoodle with a gun (or spear) getting lucky.

Mr "I've got a spear!" probably should have been crushed and cuffed after he assaulted the officers (by leveling it at them), but it looks like they decided it wasn't worth the paperwork when he backed off after being warned...

Hmmm... I don't recall Hinkley, Frome, Oswald, Czolgosz, Booth, Guiteau, Godse, or Chapman making any threats before they acted. It might just be better policy not to wait for a specific threat before taking some protective measures.

If this picture were of an American politician, that would be the end of her career. Anyone know if it's similar in Australia?

It would be hard to tell since her career is heading down the toilet either way.

Likely to get more sympathy than anything else though, violently menacing the PM (whether the threat was real or otherwise) is not something that will be looked on favourably. That sort of bullshiat behaviour is considered poor form no matter what skin colour you have.

Should've let your Abos go loose, Bruce.

/yes, I know it's a racial slur.
//don't blame me, I didn't write the farking song.

The action seemed more of a preventive thing to me.
Those protesters were pretty lame, though. "SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!"
