I propose we make all tennis players wear bark collars. Would make it way more interesting.

I can only watch women's tennis on mute.

But, unlike with men's tennis, at least there is a reason to watch.

I have no problem with it. I doubt it affects the other player. as a wise japanese man once told me, noise with movement make movement easier.

Why apologize? Azarenka's a nice-looking chick. (My comment above wasn't a comparison, just an indicator of who the players are.)

I've long believed that women's tennis would be more interesting if they shrieked ALL THE TIME. Like, constantly. And maybe dual-wielded tennis rackets.

Does anyone here know anybody who is an actual fan of professional tennis? Outside of gawking at women's singles. Someone who is excited about watching the Djokovic/Murray (I had to look that one up) match caliber of fan. I'm always flabbergasted at the coverage it gets. Unlike golf, where a large number of sports fans play the game and have an interest in the PGA. I can completely understand (even though I don't care for the game) why it gets the coverage it does.

I understand its popularity with the country club crowd, but, really..... Driving home from work today Soctt Van Pelt started talking about the Nadal match or some shiat. Within miliseconds I changed the station. Is the sport actually that popular and every sports fan I've met is some anomally who doesn't like it?

I enjoy tennis. genuinely. I played tennis growing up and still play tennis. it's a great sport (perhaps my favorite to play, since I'm good at it and you don't need a team).

I enjoy watching it as well. I like both men's and women's. it's two different sports though. The amount of power in the men's game is pretty amazing. not to mention, this is really a high time for men's tennis.

/ if you don't like it, that's cool with me. I think the people who like it are people who play it. there is a lot to the game that people who haven't played before might not understand. I could understand it looking like people just hitting a ball back and forth, but it's a sport with a lot of deliberation.
// golf is much more a country club affair then tennis, being that golf is generally attached to a country club. I can play tennis on a free lot whenever I want.

My folks watch it consistently, and if I'm in the neighborhood for a finals match I'll generally make an effort to enjoy it with them. I've played tennis in my youth, so I at least understand the game and what each player is attempting to do on the court. I don't like watching Qualifiers though...

It's pretty popular in Europe, particularly eastern Europe.

Are you playing the dumb naive typical American as a joke, or serious? Obviously the people who like tennis are above your intelligence level, such as those that graduated high school.

Just watched it. It was an awesome match. It looks like Lendl lent Murray one of his balls and it worked.

Though tennis popularity in the USA is flagging. The casual fan wants to see an American winning, and good luck with that when your hopes are Querrey-types.

It really doesn't bother me if an American is winning or not, but I'm sure it would help. I know there are millions of fans out there. My mom's cousin is one of them. But, I'm just wondering why the coverage seems so disproportionate to the number of fans. I know its popular in Europe, but that doesn't explain why it gets covered so much here in the states. I mean, look at how massive the NFL is here. Doesn't mean it should be all over the place in Europe.

Go in to a sports bar during a match. It might be on, but if it is, unless there is nothing else on, it is usually restrcted to a smaller screen off to the side. Let's say its Federer/Nadal and a great match and its on every screen in the place. People will watch, but don't get very excited about it. Nobody is wearing a Nadal headband......

I'm not saying its a bad sport at all. I don't find it interesting (like golf), and I understand that there are many many people who do like it, so it should get coverage. I'm just saying it seems to get massive amounts of attention, yet you never really see or hear getting excited about it.

Figure skating is even worse as far as this goes. Not many people give a shiat about it on a normal day, yet when the Olympics are going, its almost the main event and talked about non stop.

I love watching tennis, especially the majors. The men's game has been at a really high point for the past 10-15 years, with almost everything from the quarterfinals on in every major being a match worthy of a championship. The women's game, while generally fun to watch, is nowhere near as good, and the women just don't stay at the top.

I just wish I wasn't busy this week, because I love staying up in the middle of the night watching the Australian Open. It's just fun to watch a major worldwide sporting even live from 9pm-5am.

A sports bar to watch tennis? There's your problem, you're going to the mecca of broke former frat boys whos last pleasure in life is to get piss drunk and expecting to find mainly upper income tennis fans. Either you watch tennis at the event, or at a friends house.
