Steampunk before Boing Boing? How did that work?

That robot seemed to have an unnecessary amount of extraneous signals. Why would you build that many bells and flags into it? Also, it seemed to have more steam than I would normally expect a robot to have. I'd be looking for none. None steam.

The steam keeps those damned birds at bay.

J. Frank Parnell: The steam keeps those damned birds at bay.

Surely some sort of electrified netting or projectile launcher would be better. Or perhaps a coherent amplified light emission device of some description.

Is there anything pre-Muppets that isn't strange?

I'm not sure any of the optical masers available in 1963 were powerful enough. Anyway, steam was good enough for Brunel; you wouldn't have caught him meddling with coherent light.

I think he pretty much pegged it.

Lots fun innocent fun, and I have no reason to ask for those 3-4 minutes of my life back again!

Only peripherally related at best, but for those who know (animated) Beany & Cecil, 1960s, here's (puppet) Cecil doing "Raggmopp," later a TV hit of his (animated), on live TV, a dozen years earlier in his career. Wacky, indeed!

Link (new window)

/not surprised by anything Henson did....always very deft and creative within available technology and budget

That first machine should have spent less time bragging and more time building a winding machine.

Everything would have worked out if the inaccurate human wouldn't have overwound the machine.

Can an imperfect being create a perfect one?

Can an imperfect being know a perfect one?

what was the moral after the man wound the machine?
