I would guess that she wanted to run the show completely on her terms without argument or complaint. And while the reality pobably has little relation to the boyhood fantasies we remember, that memory is still the filter these kinds of things are seen through. Or she could just really like Van Halen.

I've been teaching for awhile now, and I can tell you (purely anecdotally, of course) that in the four schools I've taught in, there is a consistent trend: female teachers in their 20s who start off married, but then find that all these teen boys overwhelm them with flirting and compliments, and then they get divorced (or in the worse case scenario, have affairs with their students). It's a strange thing to see happening. It's like the teacher, as a result of the flirting, thinks they can do better than their husbands or something.
