Apparently a lot of people in this thread don't realize that pregnancy tests use a rock of crack cocaine to make that litmus paper turn blue or red. In the name brand tests, the size and purity is greater which is why they are more expensive than the knock-off brands which use a lot of baking soda.

I guess if more people knew, there would be more of these types of crimes.

They sell pregnancy tests at Dollar Tree. Right next to the drug tests. I'm not too sure whether I'd trust either.

I don't think I've ever known a woman to use only one pregnancy test. It has been my experience that the minium is three with the average being seven. For some reason, when the test is positive women don't trust the first one, or three.

I'd suspect that's what they were doing if it hadn't said in the article that the female removed them from the packaging before putting them in her purse. Can't return them without the box, so I'm left wondering exactly why the hell you'd steal 11 pregnancy tests.

I guess that's why D.C.'s rate (165 per 1000) is almost double that of TX (88 per 1000). Link (new window).

While trying to conceive I got pregnancy tests in bulk at less than $.25 a pop on Amazon. I took 10 when one was positive 7 months ago. Even then my husband wouldn't get excited until the blood test confirmed it.

No, because just maybe the epidemic is not so much "ass-backwards" Southerners as it is the minorities prevalent in the South who drive up the teen pregnancy statistics. The comparison with DC is fair because the people in, say, TX are all Southerm, as the people in DC are nearly all minorities. The dumbasses above attribute teen regnancies to "ass-backward" Southerners, I say it is disproportionately a minority problem. If the problem is "stupid" Southerners, why does NV have a higher rate than any Southern state, according to your link.

Ah, just the typical response I was expecting. "It's all those damn minorities' faults! That's what the real problem is!" And conservatives claim that liberals are the ones who play the race card too much.

The regressive state governments (that are primarily, but not all) in the South, by design, encourage the existence of a perpetual underclass in society. It's very telling that you place the blame entirely on that underclass and not at all on the system itself.

Also, why do you make the distinction of a problem being "ass-backwards Southerners" or "minorities"? Why is that a difference? Aren't all people from the South still, by definition, Southerners regardless of what race they are? If the problem is that too many Southern blacks are getting pregnant, that's still a Southern problem. Or are you insinuating that minorities in the South are not "real Southerners"?

Ah, the typical response: "It's not their fault." The same excuse given for their extreme over-representation in crime statistics.

I guess California has a "regressive state government", as their numbers (again your chart) mirror those of states in the south. Nevada (a Blue state) has a higher rate than any Southern state, including Texas. DC is not a state, although many have argued for its statehood. No one would argue that their government is regressive or conservative. Why then are their numbers so high? What state government is keeping them down? The problem follows the minorities, wherever they are. Not just Blacks, hispanics also. What is that so hard to see? Are the high numbers in Detroit a Southern problem? Watts, California? Minorities also commit violent crime way out of proportion to their representation in society. I guess that's someone else's fault too. Lots of those crimes occur in the South, so is the fault of everyone in the South? Comparing the rates of city to those a state is fair because one has to go to a city level to find a sufficiently significant minority population to make the comparison. One cannot find a significant minority population without looking at the city level. Finally, if there is a system of government encouraging the existence of a perpetual existence of an underclass in society, it is the Federal system of entitlements.

Washington DC is not subject to any state's law, so your copout of "b-bu-but regressive state laws" is all the more pathetic. While DC may be a few miles, literally, below the Mason-Dixon line, it is worlds away from the typical Red Southern state, politically speaking.

I see that there's not much point in arguing with your stubbornness anymore. I'll just leave you with two more questions:

1. Where did I ever, at any point, try to claim that minority groups were entirely blameless for their problems? Could it be that their situation is a result of...*gasp* both their own decisions and the effects of society overall?

2. biatch, biatch, and biatch all you want about the South having too many minorities if you desire. Then take the time to ask yourself: whose fault is it that the South has so many minorities?

OK....agreed. The problems are some combination of their own decisions and actions and social dynamics. And I'll grant you it's mostly Whitey's fault they're here: 17th-19th century Whitey, certainly not my fault or yours, or anyone else's alive today.
