Fun Facts about Mitch Daniels:

During his tenure as head of the Office of Management and Budget, from 2001 to 2003, the federal budget went from an annual surplus of $236 billion to a deficit of $400 billion.

He estimated that the Iraq war would cost $60 billion.

What he didn't say was that number was "per person"

If the GOP's official representative doesn't like the direction that the country's headed, I'm inclined to step on the gas pedal...and see if I can get 50 points by running the motherfarker down on road while I'm at it.

/metaphorically speaking, of course
//God bless Governor Daniels

Yeah, but maybe they would at least they try to hide it in something instead of outright saying "We're going to do nothing because our team isn't winning, and will continue making sure things are shiat until you make our team win. GO TEAM!."

Well, we now know that that plan was to lose to Obama, and that it succeeded.

Who's laughing now, libbos?

America's problems today are the same as four years ago.

Except Osama is dead. And unemployment is down. And the Iraq war is over. And everybody can have health care.

But other than that, the country's going to hell.

Why does Mitch Daniels hate America?

Imagine the new asshole-tearing shiatstorm if Obama had actually said that ("the state is grave").

Or NOT said "God bless the United States." Like Daniels didn't.

Reminds me of a story.... Something about a scorpion and a turtle crossing a corn field.... or maybe it was a river. At least I'm pretty sure it was a turtle. No matter, they are halfway across and.... ummmm.... The turtle.... eh, hmmmmmm... Oh fark it... Yadda yadda yadda. I can't remember the exact story but the point is a zebra can't change it's spots

After the debate, Chuck Todd made a good comment on the "optimism/pessimism" topic. 2012 is already shaping up to be a battle of attitudes from each party, and it was on full display in the last 24 hours.

Obama didn't go "Baghdad Bob" and claim all is well in America, but he sounded an optimistic tone while acknowledging the work still ahead of us. Daniels, then Romney and the rest responded with gloom, doom, and great danger. At the end of the day, voters look to the parties' attitudes as much as their platform, and in a battle of doom vs. optimism, optimism will always win in the long run. (ex. Kennedy v. Nixon).

I doubt it. Democrats don't have the stomach to be that ridiculous. They would compromise too much and let the GOP run all over them.

That's why we got the Patriot Act and the war in Iraq.

I've come to the conclusion that once a person reaches a certain level of financial success, they emotionally and logically detach themselves from the concept of loyalty to nation.

The ability to just 'leave' if things get too bad has a way of liberating your heart and mind from attachment to country and countrymen, so of course they don't care about what happens to this nation.

It's gone from being their home to just another corpse to rape and strip bare before heading to Australia, China and Russia.

This is an Onion article, right?

"No feature of the Obama Presidency has been sadder than its constant efforts to divide us, to curry favor with some Americans by castigating others," he said.

You mean like Real Americans?

Nah, they are as loyal as anyone else. I know its in my best interest that the nation be doing well in 40 years, because while I'm doing quite well in life it is nowhere near guaranteed that I could snag citizenship and a good job overseas. It might be quite a bit of work, especially if I had to do so after America sneezes and gives the world a cold. I've yet to be put in a position in which a vote for my own best interest would be a vote against the best interest of the country.

Nationalism and flag waving has never made much sense to me.

An opposition that would earn its way back to leadership must offer not just criticism of failures that anyone can see, but a positive and credible plan to make life better, particularly for those aspiring to make a better life for themselves. Republicans accept this duty, gratefully.

Wow, I don't think I could say that as a Republican with a .50 BAC and having licked an entire blotter sheet. Holy christ these people are animals.

So let me get this straight.

It's not obstruction when the House refuses to vote on any Senate bills

But

It's total obstruction when the Senate refuses to vote on any House bills.

Just wanted to get that straightened out.

No, they're really not. If you're on a boat and it starts taking on water, you're going to do whatever you can to keep that damned thing afloat.

Now, let's say you have the ability to get off that boat and just...'fly away'. Better still, you can take your family with you and if you punch a few holes in the hull first, you can make good money selling life preservers and bailing buckets to the nonflying majority before you go.

I'm not saying that every rich man has no loyalty to its birth nation, but consider how easy it is for so many rich foreign-born people to leave their homes and come here rather than work to improve their own nation.

The rich here would do the same thing if things got bad enough. Worst still, a good percentage of them would actively make this nation suffer in order to line their pockets before bailing at the first sign of real trouble.

They would justify it by pointing out that Republican policies have a proven track record of causing massive depressions.
