Republican: where you can be patriotic by denigrating a distinguished war veteran who still carries shrapnel from combat in his body, while all the while claiming the other side spit on the troops. And most of them are chickenhawks to boot.

Not while Daniel Inouye is in office. Sayeth the Wiki:

On April 21, 1945, Inouye was grievously wounded while leading an assault on a heavily-defended ridge near San Terenzo in Tuscany, Italy called Colle Musatello. The ridge served as a strongpoint along the strip of German fortifications known as the Gothic Line, which represented the last and most dogged line of German defensive works in Italy. As he led his platoon in a flanking maneuver, three German machine guns opened fire from covered positions just 40 yards away, pinning his men to the ground. Inouye stood up to attack and was shot in the stomach; ignoring his wound, he proceeded to attack and destroy the first machine gun nest with hand grenades and fire from his M1 Thompson submachine gun. After being informed of the severity of his wound by his platoon sergeant, he refused treatment and rallied his men for an attack on the second machine gun position, which he also successfully destroyed before collapsing from blood loss.

As his squad distracted the third machine gunner, Inouye crawled toward the final bunker, eventually drawing within 10 yards. As he raised himself up and cocked his arm to throw his last grenade into the fighting position, a German inside fired a rifle grenade that struck him on the right elbow, severing most of his arm and leaving his own primed grenade reflexively "clenched in a fist that suddenly didn't belong to me anymore". Inouye's horrified soldiers moved to his aid, but he shouted for them to keep back out of fear his severed fist would involuntarily relax and drop the grenade. As the German inside the bunker reloaded his rifle, Inouye managed to pry the live grenade from his useless right hand and transfer it to his left. As the German aimed his rifle to finish him off, Inouye managed at last to toss the grenade off-hand into the bunker and destroy it. He stumbled to his feet and continued forward, silencing the last German resistance with a one-handed burst from his Thompson before being wounded in the leg and tumbling unconscious to the bottom of the ridge. When he awoke to see the concerned men of his platoon hovering over him, his only comment before being carried away was to gruffly order them return to their positions, since, as he pointed out, "nobody [had] called off the war!"

The remainder of Inouye's mutilated right arm was later amputated at a field hospital without proper anesthesia, as he had been given too much morphine at an aid station and it was feared any more would lower his blood pressure enough to kill him.

i'd have no way of proving that i have or haven't, would i? basically any question you ask, i could google it and find answers. you could say my answers were out of character with someone in uniform, but that would be your opinion vs. mine. So let's not get into a whole thing about easily falsified or exaggerated service records.

Linux is for freeloaders.

None of these allegations were made until the 2004 presidential campaign.

Defenders of John Kerry's service record, including nearly all of his former crewmates, have stated that SBVT's accusations are false

I will take the overly defensive response to be a "no", then. It's too bad they dont hand out medals for COD4 heroics and spending way too much time fantasizing about what weaponry would best suit a zombie apocalypse - you'd look like one of those African warlords. Good luck with your future trolling, douchebag.

So you take the word over a group of hired smear artists rather than the rest of Kerry's crewmates, because you refuse to accept that a Democrat ever did anything positive. Got it.

Better to look down on the Purple Heart than to realize that Republicans are, quite often, cowardly farktards who, if they couldn't get their rich friends to get them out of the draft, shiat themselves like the chickenhawk pussies they are.

Why is it okay for you to take the word of people paid to attack someone for political reasons, in this case John Kerry, but we can't take the word of Time magazine, the United States Military, The New York Times, The LA Times, Nightline & ABC News, etc., when they look into it independently and all come to the same conclusion that the Swift Boat ads were false? Gingrich himself just used the phrase "Swift Boat" against Romney in the sense that Romney was running fake ads.

You take the word of the swift boat veterans for truth over the United States' military though, simply because they back up what you really want to believe. Who do you support in this presidential race, by the way? Ron Paul, Gingrich, Romney or Santorum? Did you support George Bush?*

/*We know you did, it's rhetorical

Yes I was going to point out the the exception of Military service, but then the one of the main themes of their campaign was implying his service didn't count. And it worked, just look at the rest of this thread, or the purple heart band-aid lady.

You sir, deserve as many billy goats as you can eat from beneath your bridge! Comparing a Nat'l Guard pilot serving in domestic training who failed to meet his service obligations (new window) to a Navy officer engaged in actual combat in Vietnam (new window) is A+ material! Kudos!

And Gingrinch? Seriously? The guy who publicly flogged the President over adultery while simultaneously committing adultery? And who was fined and essentially forced out of office by his own party? Fartbongo will destroy him in a general election.

It's stuff like that that makes me think we probably needed to drop the bombs. If a Japanese-American did that for a country that locked up his fellow citizens, imagine what a Japanese field army would've done defending the home islands?

I don't give a crap about adultery. In fact, I see it as a sign of strength and dominance. Newt bangs who he wants to when he wants to. That makes him an alpha male, and if you can't deal with that, maybe you'd better reconsider your own mating strategies. Me, I get what I want because I'm willing to go for it. Newt and I are kindred spirits.

It was supposed to be a trick on my part, too. "Conservatives" respond to almost everyone who quotes them, but they always conveniently ignore the hardest part of your post to rebut. They also almost never admit that they supported Bush. I put that in about Bush then to try to force him to respond about why it's okay for him to believe obvious propaganda, but not okay for other people to believe multiple independent news organizations and the military when they look into said propaganda and conclude that it's false. He chose to say he loves W and Gingrich instead, in an argument about supporting people who served in the military being in politics.

Anyways, nobody cares about this thread so it's not really worth getting into anymore

the_vegetarian_cannibal:

I think you misinterpreted the word "support."

-If you have a small number of people saying one thing while significantly more people say another thing you lack the support of the majority.

-If that small group of people are frequently detached from the events at the time they were taking place, while the people supporting the claim were eye witnesses, you lack the support of direct evidence.

-If within that small group of people you consistently find that they have contradictory statements (example the arguments against Kerry's bronze medal is undeserved due to the situation is heavily pushed for by three main people (other swift boat commanders), one had a concussion, one was not on the scene, and the other also received a bronze medal for the same exact event for the same exact reasons.) You lack the support of credible witnesses.

If you lay things out fact by fact, what was linked was not support for his statement it does more to refute it.

But now lets get beyond that, ignore the three purple hearts, the silver star, and the bronze star. No one is going to argue against the statement that Kerry was a commander of a swift boat in Vietnam that saw a decent amount of action. The other person in the presidential race, never saw combat and never led anyone in a combat situation. McCain=war hero, Kerry=war hero, Inouye=war hero, Bush=! war hero.

It is one thing to criticize people it is a completely different thing to slander some for the service they provided to a country. Even if you take away everything that people contest about Kerry's experience in Vietnam he still did a hell of a lot more than the majority of the people sitting back criticizing him. Kerry may produce the best speeches to sleep to, you may disagree with his political view points, there are a tons of good reasons to criticize Kerry and legitimate things to criticize him about. His military service is hardly one of them.
