Sounds like there is a dispute as to whether he is a citizen or not as well. While the law seems to be well-intentioned, it also seems over broad and not really important. There should also probably be a difference between those who apply to a school and those who are actively recruited, for either sports or academics.
There is one thing bugging me, though. FTA:
They found that there were approximately 521 undocumented students among the 311,000 students in the university system. Within that was "a smaller subset" of illegal immigrants.
Is there actually a difference between undocumented and illegal?

Suddenly, the SEC fanbase realizes there's drawbacks to letting xenophobia and racism dictate policy.
That conference is going to give us a college football playoff, and perhaps immigration reform? I'll vote for Mike Slive in 2016 at this rate.

Some people born in broken homes aren't necessarily documented. I'm not a parent so I don't know the details, but I presume a lot of the legal shiat (like registering with the SSA) starts as soon as a woman in labor gets admitted to ER. But there are plenty of paranoid families that basically avoid their civic duties like the plague, so there's very little paperwork on them. If a kid is born in a bathroom or crazy church with no medical assistance (after all, humans didn't have doctors for thousands of years), homeschooled, then plays in youth leagues based on falsified information, a scout might wind up recruiting a "student" who's a U.S. citizen without any documentation whatsoever of being a citizen. . . because that's really the idea.
I work in a sales outfit, and by happenstance traveling salesmen go places a lot of people don't see. They have stories of some rural folk who never went as far as the nearest town, 20 miles from where they were born, and these people would literally

Raoul Duke: I want you to understand that this man at the wheel is my football coach. He's not just some dingbat I found on the strip, man. He's a foreigner. I think he's probably Samoan. But that doesn't matter, though, does it? Are you prejudiced?

"illegal" kind of a misnomer to begin with.
If you are an undocumented resident, you could have been born here but just have no evidence of it. Maybe your mom was nuts and had you and didn't tell anyone, etc.
You can be an undocumented immigrant brought here by your parents, by which you're not a legal resident, but you're not in violation of any laws. (Republicans like to say all "illegal immigrants" are criminals, but this is not true.)
You could also be undocumented but not illegal if you were kidnapped and brought here or if you are en route to another country but an accident leaves you here.
You become a criminal illegal when you fabricate government documents or commit perjury in order to stay in this country.

You had me until this statement: you're also illegal if you, say, swim the Rio Grande because you know you won't be allowed in. Or if you pay a coyote to sneak you in, or if your visa expires and you elect to stay. If you know that you're not in the US with a work/student/tourist visa. "Illegal immigrant" doesn't mean a criminal lie was told to get in/stay in, it also just plain means "has no legal standing to be here." Hell, I know a 35-year-old Australian that's been working at a local magazine for about 12 years, paid cash under the table the whole time, because his tourist visa expired and he didn't feel like leaving. He hasn't criminally perjured himself in any way, he just never left.

Trivia? Interesting? He wrote for sports magazines on and off for his entire career -- remember, that's why he was sent to Vegas in the first place in Fear & Loathing -- and then he spent a few years writing a regular football column for ESPN. "Hunter liked football" is more of a "here's something anyone that knows anything about him would have observed" piece of trivia.

Hawaiins too. I'm not sure if the Mormons were the first to be allowed to the Pacific Islands, or just the first to be brave enough to go. Michener mentions it in his book Hawaii. Somewhere about the three pound mark.
