That was pretty good. Just hope season three has a little more zombies and plot about the zombie apocolypse and a little less love story.

Yes subby. This improved The Walking Dead.

Is this the topic where I bash The Walking Dead?

Because that show kind of sucks.

I hope they up their budget again. Last season was too soap opera-y.

AMC Exec: "Twice as many as the first season! And the best part is... we're halving your budget!!!"

Producer: "FML."

Seson 2 is gonna pick up just you wait til Whoopi Goldberg shows up as comic book fan favorite "Michonne"

She will make us want to scream "Dat Beyotch a badd ass" and also make us want to furiously rub one out.

The video is farked.
so is the show. someone tried to get me into it, but i made it through about 2 episodes.
I see from the comments that the lovestory doesn't wane by the End of season 2?! Good zombie lord, i guess i'm not missing anything after all.
I clicked on the "banana theorist" link. didn't make it to the end, too much stupid.

Fark whoever it was at AMC that decided "You don't really need to show zombies in a zombie show" and cut the budget so much. They turned a good show into 45 minutes of meh.

I figure that's why Frank Darabont took a lesser role in production for season 2.

In theory, I like the idea that the show is more about humanity, and what it means to be human, than it is about zombies. But if the show is serious about that, it really needs to up its game, writing-wise. Lori's pregnancy storyline has been cringeworthy so far, and that seems like it should be central to the "what kind of world do we want to live in" theme.

You mean you don't like 45 minutes of "character development" taking place in 1 room of a farm house? Same thing happened to BSG. In the later seasons you weren't even sure the show was taking place in space anymore...

The only reason I watched the Walking Dead is so I could read the weekly recap of it on videogum.com. I love the way they point out all the plot holes and ridiculousness of this terrible show.

Honestly, it's one of the worst shows I've ever seen, but I will not stop watching so long as Videogum keep making fun of it.

someonelse: In theory, I like the idea that the show is more about humanity, and what it means to be human, than it is about zombies.

You're not looking for a show titled "The Walking DEAD", then. Therein lies the problem. If the second season of the show was called "The Dramatic Alives" then it'd be less controversial, but a show about zombies without zombies betrays the audience's expectations.

I'm being very forgiving here. To put it another way, The Great Gatsby is considered one of the best novels ever written. As a human drama it's unparalleled. But it's really, really shiatty sci-fi.

The size of the budget has nothing to do with why TWD blows.

It sucks because of poor writing.

Budget effects the amount of talent you can hire. Also, even if you could afford good talent, how much can you write when you're stuck in a farmhouse because your production budget for set design is next to nothing? Oh, and you can't have zombies because there's no budget for the makeup or extras. You have a farmhouse, a barn, a couple of tents, some woods, and the same 8 characters with no outside conflict to develop them further or drive the story--go!

They have enough money to hire good writers. They have chosen not to.

Their budget for set design is more than adequate. The problem is it is squandered.

The farm location is much more expensive to shoot at than anything they could accomplish building sets in a studio.

History has proven that zombie makeup need not be complicated or expensive to be effective and the idea they there is not enough money to hire extras is absurd.

OK...ok. I would have lots and lots of circumlocution while focusing on the most unlikeable of characters making faces at each other. If you want any subplots, I would, I don't know, have a couple of meet-cutes that aren't.

The last episode before the break was pretty riveting - but all the ones that preceded it, my god, how long did they drag out that "missing girl" plot point?

And then there was the hilarious praying scene.

Pretty sure the creator has mentioned many times that the title also refers to the human characters.

i don't like that show either... And i'm a big zombie fan... read the graphic novel, seen all of the well-known and obscure zombie films, read WWZ...

It just 'misses'. And why does that cop guy STILL wear his uniform? Wouldn't that piss some of you off? Like he has to remind the end-of-the-world people that he was once a cop... Who cares? You ain't one now. Go steal some cool new clothes from the mall, guy.

Absolutely and without question. Much, much more expensive.

That said, you need a citation to believe the show has the funds to hire a couple of extras?

Welp, I'm satisfied!

Good call on the extras, way to ignore the rest. What you're saying is you have none. None citations.

Not much of a citation but depending on where that farmhouse is it might just be more expensive than a studio. If it's way out there deep deep in Six Toe County, GA there is a very long logistical train to consider. Commuting time for cast and crew, the food has to be trucked in for them, kids on set are governed by VERY strict labor laws as far as how many hours they can even be there. Weather is never under your control when outdoors. You have to stock EVERY possible spare part for every piece of gear you have AND keep it hidden from view when filming. That might mean shuffling all your trailers around and then erasing any sign that they were there.

A studio means no hour commute to and from location and anything like food, water and spare camera parts are just 5 minutes away and it doesn't rain or even get cloudy unless you want it to.

All that being said my nerdrage about this show originates from the fact that it's SO CLOSE to being good. It's like AMC is trolling me on purpose.

You do know that "The Walking Dead" may also describe both the hopelessness of the survivors' situation and the seeming ressurection of the main character who had been left for dead in the hospital? It's practically a triple entendre. It doesnt have to be "hurr, shoot zombies" for 45 minutes. But maybe that's a level of critical thinking you're unaccustomed to.

That's more like it. I would like to bold the "depending on where the farmhouse is" part, but that would be reaching.

Also, I'm reading up on videogum (thanks to whoever posted that above) and there is a great line in the season 2 episode 1 synopsis that says: "I hope we don't see Sophia again until the season finale so that we can just always be looking for Sophia. It's almost TOO fascinating."

Spot on. It would be funny if it weren't so sad.

Freakish....I started watching both shows and while I could stomach BB more it still just failed to make me care about whether the characters lived or died.

The major issue I had with TWD is the lack of the phrase "WTF???" being used when he wakes up. Whether bleeped or eluded to that is the only logical reaction anyone can have in that situation.
