689908: Wigan have signed Jean Beausejour. If that doesn't save them from relegation, nothing will.

Beausejour sucks.

BTW, betfauir odds for El Clásico: Barcelona 1.57, Tie 5, Real Madrid 5.9. LOL.

Stimied in a Rut: Away goals rule makes sense when imposed normally because it is always harder to score away than at home. However, having it count in extra time is super dumb.

Tell that to Liverpool.

Oh, to close the penalty or not debate, from the BBC...

BBC Radio 5 live football commentator Jacqui Oatley on Twitter: "I've just spoken to ex-top ref Alan Wiley. Says it should NOT have been a pen as Micah Richards couldn't have known the ball would pop up and hit his arm. But Wiley thinks Dowd gave it because he didn't see the ball hit Richards' leg as it happened so quickly."

That makes sense to me. Can't say more until I see video of it later.

Stuck at work with no stream, but I'm wearing my Liverpool touque right now.

LET'S GO REDS!

My opinion (not rule of law) is that even if there was a deflection, the prevented the progress of the ball. It can't have to do with intent because they whistle fouls for unintentional handballs outside of teh box all of the time.

I got the BBC and ESPN Soccernet text commentaries up to follow this one. It's a workable substitute.

2012-01-25 04:27:11 PM
I thought this was a good take on the deflection:

Pete B on text: "If I accidentally bring someone down in the penalty area, it's a penalty. If I accidentally get caught offside, it's an offside. If I accidentally score a goal, it's a goal. Why should it be different if I accidentally stop the ball with my hand in the penalty area?"

That's my feeling too. Accidents happen, but they still get called. Of course, I'm not impartial in this case.

Just looked it up- Carling Cup Final is Sunday, February 26. This obviously means that the 2nd Merseyside Derby of the season is to be rescheduled (was to be played on 2/25 and shown on ESPN2 in the USA)

Commentator Re: Dani Alves' super blast "A good thing the net was there as there'd be health and safety concerns if it wasn't!"
Explain to me why we can't get English/Scottish commentators in the US? You know, anyone who can actually commentate on the game as oppose to reciting mundane facts as if they are not mundane.

"They really need a first down here" is not commentary.

Looks like a repeat of Copa del Rey glory is not in the cards for Real this year.

Watch Madrid implode in the 2nd half. There's no chance they'll finish the game with 11 players.

That's one of my favorite parts of watching El Classico. Pepe and Ramos usually lose their shiat. If I wasn't at work I'd make a drinking game out of the second half.

Come to think of it...

This guy from the Gold Cup is the commentator America deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

Madrid have pulled 2 back and need 1 more to take it on away goals. Didn't see that happening.

Pepe carded, should have been sent off by now, drink.

I think Pepe and Ramos need to be sent off, to a concentration camp.

"Josy loves scoring like a fat boy eating cake!" is the best line ever. I remember laughing my ass off when that was played live.
