I'd watch soccer during the superbowl just to show my contempt for those teams but it's too damn boring

Don't forget Barcelona-Madrid tonight. It will be interesting to see what happens if Madrid loses another Clasico. The natives are getting restless with Mourinho and his cynical tactics in these matches.

Gah, three games today. Hrm...I'm gonna have to avoid this thread so I can watch everything on replay without spoilers.
Darn work for getting in the way of soccer.

Wigan have signed Jean Beausejour. If that doesn't save them from relegation, nothing will.

Glad to see a thread today so I have a place to biatch when Liverpool can't score at home (again) and inevitably fall to City in penalties.

Which by the way was only half of what Suarez got.

Words....Worse than stomping on somebody's face.

Well, it's the all-MLS B-Team for the US (plus Jermaine Jones), so I'm not expecting much in terms of results. Klinsmann is still working through the roster trying to figure out who fits and who doesn't.

Of course, saying that makes us seem like we support racism (/sarcasm)

/if he had stomped on Evra's face, I think all Liverpool supporters would've chipped in to make up his lost income.

Or we could go with:

Evera's feelings....More valuable than Parker

/Vehemenantly opposes racism
//Does not think it should be penalized to a greater degree than assault.

If they didn't play with cynical tactics they would be back to losing 5-0.

Liverpool tends to play like that in these situations, cited is trying to open them up a bit.

Espn has them being prety offensive with 6 shots (4 on goal)

They're trying to get forward a bit. Bellamy just hit a rocket straight at Hart then they gave possesion away with a stupid pass.

Brilliant goal from De Jong.

1-1 agg

why are fans at Anfield cheering for that guy?

this means no penalties to decided who advances

expobill: that was a tough penalty.....the ball did deflect unluckily

That's what it sounds like (not watching so I can't be certain). But if the arm was away from the body, it has to be called, in my opinion.

Also, am I the only one who thinks the away goals rule is dumb? And the Carling Cup away goals rule (only applying after extra time) extra dumb?

2012-01-25 03:31:29 PM
From the BBC text commentary:

BBC Radio 5 live summariser Graham Taylor: "You cannot put your hands in the air. If the ball strikes them it's going to be a penalty. You can appeal forever. That's handball, that's a penalty."

2012-01-25 03:46:51 PM
From an Aston Villa fan: Graham Taylor is a twat.

desertgeek: Also, am I the only one who thinks the away goals rule is dumb? And the Carling Cup away goals rule (only applying after extra time) extra dumb?

It's pretty dumb

2012-01-25 03:55:04 PM
Away goals rule makes sense when imposed normally because it is always harder to score away than at home. However, having it count in extra time is super dumb.
