I had an industrial safety instructor in college that though fluoride was some kind of plot. I never got around to bringing in my chemistry text and showing how the reactions take place in the body to strengthen the teeth and is rendered inert by stomach acid and is removed by the kidneys if it enters through a cut in the mouth.

Ah yes, the Americans as Guinea Pigs program. Take a look at people over 55 in the Grand Rapids, MI area. Particularly the NW side, where flouridation began. Very few of them have all their teeth, and a disproportional number of them have less than 6. The dosage was a little high, apparently. Flouride is a very toxic substance, and is entirely 100% unnecessary with proper dental hygiene. Yet in most US cities of any size it is added to the water supply as a matter of course, and nobody is given a choice in the matter apart from not living or working in those communities.

Having lived in a place where most people use well water that isn't fluoridated, and have rotten teeth as a result, I thank God I've spent most of my life in places where the water is fluoridated. Thanks, Communists!

I am not doubting your statistic, but why 12 year olds? Wouldn't 30 to 40 year olds be more relevant.

Would differences in development speed influence this. do factors that hasten or hold back the beginning of puberty also affect when children get their permanent teeth and would such differences still influence the data at age 12?

How was this measured anyway? Did they just measure everyone who actually goes to the dentist, or was that some sort of program that examines all the kids in school? Free health care and mandatory school attendance would affect these figures then.

I am sorry, but without some background on why and how these particular figure were measured I can't really assign them any more meaning than a tired old cliché supported by a screen cap from the Simpsons.
