Agreed we would need at least 10 times as many troops not counting air and naval forces to back them up.

If we were going to spank Iran, it wouldn't be via ground troops. It would come via a B-2 and a pair of GBU-28s.

in 2003 the US moved around 100,000 troops into Kuwait prior to the Invasion(does not count naval forces or other regional forces)

It may be enough to start a revolution, which they can finish themselves. I think there are a lot of Iranians ready to revolt.

Yes, because Obama is totes going to start a new war with the election coming up in a few months. That would be awesome for his approval rating.

He'll be elected president within the next 4-12 years. He's just waiting for the Bush Jr backlash to end. It only took 8 years for American to forget about Bush Sr when they elected Bush Jr. The pendulum always swings back the other way. Unfortunately, due to the continually declining intellect of Americans, they will pick another Bush in the near future. Its a done deal.

No, no, no this time we REALLY will be greeted as liberators! Trust this time guys!
See if the line works, and becomes true, then there's pictures of middle eastern people in desert cities greeting us as such. If this comes true then they just paste those images into the history books with selectively edited quotes to rewrite the history of the Iraq war. Americans are dumb enough to buy it. The MiniTru would be pleased.

nonstory. We couldn't invade Tehran with only 15,000 troops, much less the whole country. This seems like a prudent deployment in case of trouble anywhere in the Gulf.

yes, quite uninformed of their recent history, maybe its because all they are told is the US is the best, most unique country in the world and everyones jealous of their values etc.. at least thats what they were told after they got attacked on 9/11
would've been bad PR to say it was payback for decades of bullying the rest of the world

I'm surprised it isn't. It's crazy how large the installation on Kuwait is compared to the amount of people who are, uh, "deployed" there.

I can see how this will start off, Iran tries to block the strait of hormuz. The US sends in a few Las Angela's class attack subs to tomahawk every military port around Iran - sinking 10,000 fast boats and 2,000 rubber dingy's in a matter of minutes.
A couple of B-2s from Kansas fly out and refuel over Britain - and strategically bomb every Airfield that contains combat aircraft for iran.
In the mean time Carrier born aircraft and Warships use Tomahawks to destroy and disrupt the entire communication network which includes 2 radio stations, a tv station and two preachers on a corner with a megaphone.
The Fighter Aircraft then dominate the skies in a matter of hours, destroying all combat units such as tank brigades and barracks.
We then storm the country, set up shop - and start building Micky D's and Red Boxes everywhere.
Throw in a Taco Bell and Walgreen's and the region will be stable for a few more years.
