Let's be fair to Saudi Arabia. They don't ban women from being in fatal car accidents, as long as they aren't behind the wheel.

Unfortunately convenient promotion for the ban. I wonder if the other woman will be allowed to give an uncensored account of the "accident", or maybe she has learned her lesson?

Well . . . that's just going to lead to more sexists saying "women shouldn't be allowed to drive, see? we let this one drive and now she's dead" in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East will continue to refuse to enter the 21st century (or perhaps even the 20th)

Considering my first thought was, "she was probably run off the road on purpose," and the second is that Saudi Arabia has some of the worst drivers out there, I would not call this "unexpected."

This would be kinda funny if Saudi males didn't have car accidents all the time. Apparently, they drive like shiat over there. From another article:
The World Health Organization found Saudi Arabia to have the world's highest number of deaths from road accidents, which now make up the country's principal cause of death in adult males aged 16 to 36. First reported by the Saudi daily Arab News, the study found that 6,485 people had died and more than 36,000 were injured in over 485,000 traffic accidents during 2008 and 2009.
An average of 17 Saudi Arabian residents die on the country's roads each day, a report by the Kingdom's General Directorate of Traffic has revealed.

Drove in Qatar, and I literally saw a guy in a Porsche Cayenne Turbo playing "give me my lane biatch" chicken with another guy in a Range Rover Sport. I don't think you could have squeezed a nickel in the space between their sideview mirrors, and they're yelling at each other the whole time.

I don't mean to be "that guy", Daily Mail, but there's no such thing. There is an international driver's permit, but that's really just a translation of a nationally issued licence. And it looks like the papers you needed to escape Casablanca in 1940.

Just to make that clear. The actual victim is not named in the article. Thanks for misleading as usual, Daily Fail.

Not necessarily. There's a card format too, IIRC. Different countries have different laws as to how acceptable they are. Most require you to get a native license after a year or so.

As many have mentioned already, Saudi drivers are recklessly terrible in general. Even *good* drivers are in daily danger there. Doesn't mean women shouldn't be allowed to join the fray.

Meanwhile, in America, we have 12 times the population. I know you were told there would be no math in this thread, but 52 divided by 17 is only 3. That means we have 12 times the population but only 3 times the deaths by car accident.
I really hope those numbers aren't too confusing for you, because there are probably more numbers that might get in the way... like the fact that 50% of the population of Saudi Arabia is not allowed to drive (women), so it is really more like 24 times the driving population and only 3 times the deaths. There is also the fact that the US has a longer life expectancy, so we probably have more of our population above the legal driving age.
But yeah, what was your point again?
horsepocket
2012-01-25 12:44:35 PM
Also, the Daily Fail doesn't really make it clear that the woman who died WAS NOT the famous woman who originally defied the driving ban. The woman who died in the accident was just some OTHER woman who was also defying the driving ban.
I'm not sure if this confusion was intentional or not.
