It looked to me like her hand was in the position to hold a mouse only because she was so used to resting her hand that way next to a keyboard. Notice how her fingers are resting on the lower part of the mouse and balanced on the side of the keyboard. I think she wasn't holding anything, but maybe she wasn't used to the technology enough to make it look more hands-free; she probably should've kept her hands in her lap for better effect.
