Lets look at a reason why a woman would have an abortion.
1) Not mentally ready to have a child
2) Not financially ready to have a child.

Which one of these does conservative policies (i.e. tax cuts for the rich, etc..) affect more?

Just more evidence that organized religion of all sects is one of the greatest threats to the human race.

Yeah, yeah, we get it ... Christians are stupid people who don't think their cunning plan all the way through. Could we please go back to our regularly scheduled program including important things like bacon, zombies and LOLcats?

There are more total abortions and far more unsafe abortions where it's illegal. It seems that if what you intend to do is reduce the number of abortions, education and counseling are more effective than prohibitions. Now where have I heard something like that before...

Abortions are wrong. Locking the little crotch fruit in a rubbermaid storage container, placing it back in the crib once it's gone cold, and then claiming SIDS? That's just god's will.

Pretty much. When you spend 40 years trying to push an extreme and no-compromise agenda, you're missing out on an opportunity to at least mitigate what you're trying to prevent. The hundreds of millions (or billions at this point) of dollars spent by the pro-lifers on protests, ballot initiatives, trying to influence elections, etc. could have been spent trying to find ways to help women not be in that situation to begin with.

I'm for freedom of choice. My belief, based upon years of study, is that no soul goes into the fetus until very close to the birth.

Interesting side note: Sometimes crib death is a result of the soul not going into the body at all, due to changing circumstances.

Whatever happens is always for the comfort of God's precious children - us - in the long run.

you have pee hands: There are more total abortions and far more unsafe abortions where it's illegal. It seems that if what you intend to do is reduce the number of abortions, education and counseling are more effective than prohibitions. Now where have I heard something like that before...

And typically in those countries it's also near impossible to access effective birth control or there is even worse sexual education than there is in Florida.

2012-01-25 10:03:54 AM
Interestingly, abortions are 14 times safer than childbirth. Which really makes you wonder about all the scare tactic, factually untrue, mandatory warnings that conservatives force doctors to provide.

As a rational person I would like to distance myself form these other Christians since they are insane. In future please call these people fundamentalist/fundy/sun dried brained/insane Christians and those like me rational/enlightened/sane Christians. I know my religion has done many things to make God cry, but my sect was formed to stop such things...and then it splintered further and the crazies made up there own rules.

\May God have mercy on their deluded souls.

Then there are the people that believe there are souls in all those little sperms and that's why masturbation is bad. Forget the Onan story, it's the whole "every sperm is sacred" argument. Imagine guys: you're producing 1,000,000 fresh sperm and 1,000,000 fresh souls a day. Even for the defunct mal formed sperm that won't quite make it out of your peener. It has a soul. And if you don't use it, God kills them all and has your body cannibalize it and then goes through the trouble of producing 1,000,000 fresh souls and fresh sperm to carry them.

Same goes for those rejected eggs every month, ladies.

No. It basically says religion is dumb and since our abortion rate is high and our religions rate is high..... they're correlated and ultimately directly responsible for abortions.
Basically it's a pathetic piece of dribble.
If this were a liberal issue.. farkdom would FILL this thread with correlation != causation comments and cartoons.
But given the subject.. I expect the opposite will take place.

It's only ironic if you don't expect a bunch of people who follow a religion based on perpetual persecution to do things that perpetuate their feelings of persecution....

Harvey Manfrenjensenjen: When you spend 40 years trying to push an extreme and no-compromise agenda

The Christian political insanity didn't start with Jerry Falwell, he just popularized it in American politics. Christians, Jews, and Muslims have been screwing things up for everyone else through politics and war for millenniums.

Which is why, at this stage in our evolution, I cannot believe we still listen to religious people about anything. It really goes to show that evolution doesn't necessarily make you smarter or stronger, just as long as you manage to live long enough to bust your own defective copy out.

2012-01-25 10:10:36 AM
There was a time when Thomas Jefferson admitted in letters to friends that at the rate that the enlightenment movement was going that organized religion was going to peter out well before the start of the new millennium. TJ, you optimistic but dumb bastard.

Here's the logic that pro-lifers take, in the form of a pro-slowdriver...

We don't want people to drive fast, so we will say they can't. And since now they can't, we have no reason to put brakes, or bumpers and fenders on cars. And since people will most definitely 100% not drive fast anymore ever, since we said they can't which means they never will ever, we don't really need seat belts either. Why bother to put in preventative and safety measures for something they will never ever ever do, since we said they can't.

Christians cause abortions through their quixotic dogmatism with opposing sex, period. Promoting birth control enables people to have sex without negative consequences. Their actions are not consistent with a desire to prevent abortion; their actions are consistent with a desire to punish women for having sex.

2012-01-25 10:12:00 AM
Abortion is a horrible, shiatty method of birth control.

But with good sex education and easily available contraceptives, abortion rates would drop.

"But that will make kids want to have teh sex!!!"

Look at the unwed and teen pregnancy rates, they're already farking like rabbits, and conservative religious types think sex ed and contraceptives will make kids want to do it more??? Dumbasses....

Agreed.

An end to abortion is the RNC's worst nightmare. That's why they promote Talondel's list while at the same time passing obviously unconstitutional anti-abortion laws. It makes them appear to be champions of the pro-lifers, while actually causing the number of abortions to go up.

It's brilliant, if not completely cynical and amoral.

Well, condoms aren't 100% effective.
Diaphrams, the pill, IUD, aren't 100% effective.
Pulling out isn't 100% effective.
An abortion is 100% effective.
It's actually the best form of birth control.
