Is it worth saying 'it's only a game' ? Whatever game it is - not read it, but still it's only a game

These death threats are coming from people who probably couldn't walk 100 yards in the equipment.

I must be a tard, because I just now learned that's Kenny Williams' kid.

Since the 49ers have won only 5 Super Bowls, it seems like a completely rational reaction from some of the winning-starved fans of San Francisco.

But it's been seventeen years. So it's TOTALLY justified.

I remember when Kyle Williams fumbled the punt in the ASU-UA game two years ago that cost us the game......

I would probably get a call ID on each of those threatening calls just to see how many of those cowards used their home phones to make the death threats. And probably a call ID unblocker to snag the smarter ones.

People who do this are worse than whichever villain we're biatching about these days.

No points for effort, subby, Williams didn't even get arrested. Send him to the Colts.

Cause you had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

that's idiotic, and anyone making such threats should be arrested and beaten.... but seriously dude, after the first fumble... didn't you think maybe of protecting the ball before taking off?

So as a 49ers fan I was mad at Kyle williams and I said some nasty things. Then I calmed down and realized 2 things.

1) Football is a team game, one play does not a game make, just like 1 call does not a game make. My baseball coach used to say "fark the refs, we are going to hit the ball, catch the ball and throw the ball and make it so that a blind idiot could make the right call" Just because a bad play happens that play didn't lose you the game, you had tons of other opportunities and failed to blame the 1 fumble over the x dropped passes or bad throws or missed blocks is ridiculous.

2) I've farked up in baseball and other sports and the fact is. I WISH people would tell me how awful I am, because nothing they could possibly say could make me feel worse than I already feel. No amount of outside criticizem could possibly make it any worse then it already is. Your at a place were you just wish a lighting bolt would kill you to relieve you of the shame and embarrassment.

So Kyle I apologize for being a douche. Lets work on getting it next year.

When's the last time a threat from sports in the US was actually followed through? If I was him I wouldn't be worried about anything actually happening. Note I said US, too, so don't bring up Andres Escobar.

Sure, but let's be honest, who thought that a lack of Ted Ginn would wind up appearing to be the ENTIRE reason for the Niners' loss?

/for all we know Ginn woulda fumbled three times.

True. IIRC, even the fictional guy in Buffalo '66 pussied out made the right decision.

2012-01-25 11:22:42 AM
Yeah he screwed up, and there is no excuse for the first one. But even with those fumbles a mediocee offense would have sealed the game. No offense going 1 for 13 on third downs deserves to win such a game. The lack of an offense capable of scoring is what ended 49ers season.

It is just like the Cubs fans blaming Bartman in 2003, yeah he changed one play that would have probably made the entire difference, but he didn't force a wild pitch, or Gonzalez to commit a critical error, or the entire collapse of the Mets team.

True, but given his history of having relatively sure hands on punt returns (I SAID ON PUNT RETURNS!!!), I feel pretty safe saying that had Ginn played, the Niners win this game.

Giants fans should know that between the backup punt returner making two brain dead plays, and Ed Hochuli somehow farking up Bradshaw's obvious fumble, that they are lucky beyond belief to be in the Super Bowl. Of course, that does little to solace me as a 49ers fan, and I'm sure the Giants fans couldn't possibly care less how they got there, they just know they're there, but the better team did not walk off that field a winner on Sunday, and this fact gives me a big freaking sad.

2012-01-25 11:31:15 AM
It's also Kyle Williams' fault that the 49ers went 1 for 438 on 3rd down attempts, and Kyle Williams personally batted down Alex Smith's arm on the 20 throws he had that hit the ground two feet in front of the intended receiver.

Dammit, way to kick a team when they're down.

Let's consider it payback for the refs blowing the end of the Wild Card game in 2002. As Steve Mariucci famously said when the NFL apologized to the Giants for farking up, "bummer."

It's just standard practice for the organization, they send it in all of their offers, nothing special for Kyle.

He should challenge every single sender of a death threat to a contest.

They have to hold on to a football and he gets to tackle them. First one who holds on to the ball gets to shoot him with no jail time.

/The video that would result would be LULZtacular.

Except in 2003, the winner of the Giants-49ers game won the right to be curbstomped 31-6 by the Buccaneers the next week, as TB was far and away the best team in football that year. Neither of those two teams were going anywhere that year. This was for the Super Bowl, where the Niners would have had an excellent chance of beating the Patriots (so too do the Giants, of course). And let's face it, you could have given that kicker 100 chances to make a 20 yard field goal that day, and he wasn't gonna get it anywhere near the uprights.

Like I said, I don't expect sympathy from Giants fans, and if the situation were reversed, I wouldn't have sympathy for them, either. It would be nice if the NFL could at least apologize for the officiating, though. Justin Smith was being raped all game long, and not one hold was called. Holy shiat I hate Ed Hochuli.

Gah! It's gonna be a long time before I get over this game.

Why Would I Read the Article:

Yup, lucky beyond belief for 5 straight make or break games. That is mighty fine luck.

Listen, it's simple. Like the other posters said one play here or there doesn't lose you a game. It's a combination of things. This was just the icing on the cake. Every lose is the result of litany of errors. Every victory is a team making slightly less errors than the other team. It's the name of the game.

So grow up. Half of everything in life is luck.

David Baas was called for holding. And just to make you aware, the 49ers weren't called for holding all day long. I know you probably weren't watching, but I could say the same about JPP, Osi and Tuck being held.

As a matter of fact, in 3 playoff games, Giants opponents have been called for ZERO offensive holding penalties. Sort of hard to believe when you consider the talent they have on the front four.

I'll grant you that the Giants could have had a thousand kicks and not made it back in 2003 though.

proteus_b: the better team complete 12 passes and one third down, and was 0 for 1 from the red zone, and minus 2 on turnovers? that's an interesting take on the game...

Yes, because all season the 49ers have been known for their great offense, which has carried them all season long. It certainly wasn't their stifling defense that forced the Giants to punt on every possession in the 2nd half and overtime when they didn't get a gift of a turnover. If you think the Giants are better than the 49ers, you're kind of an idiot.

you know, there's actually a technique commonly used to determinine which of two football teams is superior

I was mad, but then I realized that a team has to do so many things wrong to get to the point where one play will screw you over. The 49ers had two possessions within the two-minute warning, but went three-and-out both times. The way the defense had managed to contain the Giants offense in the second half, I have no doubt a three-point lead would have held up.

I'm thrilled at how wonderful this season has been for the true Niner Faithful. I earnestly thought SF was going to be a "Suck for Luck" contestant this year. I'm glad Jim Harbaugh was able to prove me wrong. If anything, this may be the end of this season, but I hope it signals the beginning of a new era for the 49er.

FTFA - Williams thanked fans who defended him.

"True 49ers fans have come to my support although they realize that I made a mistake, just like I realize it," he said. "I made a mistake in a key situation, but people realize I've busted my tail all year and I think my teammates realize that, too. Things happen in the game of football and you've got to bounce back from it. You've got to realize that you've made a mistake and own up to it."

F*ck that. I'm a true fan. I've been a 49ers fan longer than this kid has been alive. and after the first colossal f*ck-up which resulted in the game tying touchdown, he should have been pulled. He choked under pressure, and should never have been allowed back on the field in OT.

I'm not wishing death on him, or anything like that, but I sure as hell don't want to see his ass on the team next season.

Exactly. The Saints are a better team than the 49ers. It took 5 turnovers (a fluke w/ the Saints), and it STILL came down to the wire.

The best team does not always win. This was not the case in the Giants/49er game.

how about same concept, but all you have to do is not let a punt bounce off of you, allowing the opposition to regain possession?

The defense didn't step up and hold the Giants to a field goal after the first turnover. Championship teams pick their teammates up when they make mistakes.
Alex Smith went 1-13 on 3rd down conversions. (the 1 coming at the end of regulation vs a prevent defense)

If the defense did their job, and Alex Smith didn't shiat the bed all day long on 3rd, it would have never come to overtime.

To blame 1 person is short sighted. But then again, you are a niner fan.

Yes, 1-13 on 3rd down is 100% Alex Smiths fault. especially on running plays.

I think you forgot Crabtree. Top 10 draft choice, and can't get open all game. When the WRs disappear, your QB usually ends up looking worse than he actually is. Not that Alex is great, or even much above average, but he's certainly looked better than that.
