I find it somehow comforting to know that rich and famous people basically have the same issues as the rest of us. they just get to spend their mental breakdowns in much nicer surroundings is all.

FTFA:

Demi Moore was rushed to the hospital last night ... and we're told the issue is substance abuse.

Law enforcement tells us a 911 call was placed at 10:45 PM Monday night. Paramedics responded to Demi's L.A. home and after assessing her for a half hour, she was transported to a local hospital.

Sources tell us she is being placed in a facility to "seek further professional assistance." Our sources say the treatment is for substance abuse.

They don't call for paramedics 'cause you got a little sensation of light-headedness from chipping... Everything else is fairly clearly PR-speak for "treated for suspected OD and shipped off to locked drug rehab".

I've known lots of women who've gone through bad break-ups only to lose lots of weight, to the point of skeletor. It's their way of "control."

Maybe both, but I'm thinking she was coming off a bender and started having tachychardia (fast heartbeat) because of it. It would fit with them having 30 minutes at the house to evaluate her since it probably calmed down by the time they got there, but it also fits with them taking her to the hospital because they would need to monitor her for at least 12 hours to make sure it was resolved.

Plus, exhaustion. Maybe she's banging the pool boy.

You would think PR people could come up with a better excuse than "exhaustion" by now since everyone knows that is a BS excuse for drugs/booze

However, an OD wouldn't take 30 minutes of examination before they decided to ship her to a hospital.

Lsherm up above provided a decent assumption for the series of events that makes more sense than an OD.

Isn't it amazing how many celebrities, politicians and rich people end up in a hospital due to "exhaustion", yet the poor middle-class people who work overtime just to keep a roof over their head never seem to end up suffering this "exhaustion" when they do so much more actual labor?

/Yes, I know "exhaustion" is publicist-speak for "substance abuse".
//Lohan spent a lot of time "exhausted", if I recall correctly.

If they have even the slightest reason to believe there may have been a suicide attempt they are mandated by law to send her to the psych hospital for 24 hour observation.

That doesn't exactly sound like 'rushed'. It sounds like . . . after thirty minutes they decided to take her to the hospital.

Because the natural state of affairs for the human condition is to always want "more". It sounds like a cliche, but it really is true: The rich and powerful are no happier than the average working schlub.

Yeah, you'd think a person with virtually infinite financial resources would take a look around and say, "Damn, I have it pretty good." The human mind generally doesn't work that way. Most people, if you granted them their wildest wishes, would still find a way to be unhappy about something in life.

Your status in life is really all subjective and all about what you can contrast it against. The average chinese worker who lives in a dormitory and works in a semi-conductor factory for 80 hours a week couldn't fathom what the average middle class, suburban American farker could possibly have to be upset about. Im sure Demi Moore sees her possibilities as a 50 year old, has been out of work actress as being very bleak since she's been successfully acting/modeling since 19. We're all disposable parts on this assembly line called life, and the first time that really it home it hurts. I'm sure it hurts even more for people who have been convinced that they're somehow special.

So how many pints of it did they have to pump from her stomach?
