It is a good service, but I see nowhere where their Mormon ideals get in the way.

I once met a guy who would be somewhere in the French order of succession if they reinstated the monarchy, so I'm not incredibly impressed.

Basically, a somewhat minor branch of that royal family fled to Calais when the revolution hit, gave a fake name to get on a ship to quebec, and used a tweaked version of their original name there.

My ancestry is kind of interesting. The irish roots go way back, I'm descended from several old gaelic royal families-which means less, since the Gaelic system had local kings, regional ones, and a high king- but one of those families is the O'Neil, which held the high kingship for centuries. The recent history is less interesting, the ones who immigrated were mostly escaping the potato famine, though one was given the option of leaving the country or a long prison sentence for stealing horses. But Gaelic ancestries can be traced further back than any western group apart from the jews, so there's some interesting stuff kicking around in there.

My polish side isn't as dignified. Bunch of peasant farmers and smugglers, though in more recent times, a second cousin a couple times removed was killed in Auschwitz for giving 2 slices of bread to a passing jew. That branch still lives over there, and our family got to visit on a trip over there (in Oświęcim, the german of which is Auschwitz), which was cool.

If you trace mine straight up the male line, high kings, you go all the way back to Eochu Feidlech (well, that's as far as wikipedia goes), whose reign as high king is dated either from 48-44 BC, 94-82 BC, or 143-131 BC, depending on the source. He was the father of Medb, who became a somewhat mythical character in irish folklore.

You can go even further from the Connachta, up through the Fins (back to Eber Finn in either 1287 BC or 1700 BC, depending on source), to Míl Espáine, who was the leader of a a force of Iberian Gaels that invaded ireland.

There's some thought that Mil Espaine was a sham to provide historical cover for a group that invaded in around the 1st or second centuries, BC, but that fraud would have been perpetrated beginning in the 5th century AD or something like that.

Anyway, Gaelic heritages can be traced back a while.
