That's not the worst part. If people voted for it, it would probably pass. This is the sh*tty part:

But if a bill made it to his desk, Christie said he would veto it.

2012-01-24 01:03:36 PM
Awww, Christie is trying to strengthen his conservative credentials because he thinks he'll be on the ticket.

2012-01-24 01:09:01 PM
He wants a marriage vote in November to bring out the farktards and hand Jersey over to Romney.

2012-01-24 01:09:59 PM
He's just upset about having to hear about Sarah Palin's panties.

James!: He wants a marriage vote in November to bring out the farktards and hand Jersey over to Romney.

I wasn't aware we had all that many. The state is fairly democratic. The only reason Christie is governor is because we were all sick of Corzine.

/Kean is still the best in my lifetime.

Fat people shouldn't have rights.

The people who will come out just to vote against marriage equality hate Romney. Might work for Newt.

California is pretty democratic too.

And they voted for Obama and against gay marriage.

Soooooo, we're back were we started?

It's not an iron clad plan. Gay marriage votes scare fundies to the polls.

He knows it will pass and, honestly, I think he wants to legalize it. But he also wants to be considered on EVERY GOP short-list, and so this is how you pass it but stay detached.

I think he wants to be considered but there's not a chance in hell he'll accept.

Oh I agree. I wasn't even talking exclusively about this election's VP choice, but about future elections as well. He's smart enough to know that the GOP base is insane with their litmus tests, and ANY support of ANYTHING EVER that they NOW disagree with, is met with cries to banish you from the party.

This somehow isn't a timewarp from 1964. Christie is doing a good impression of George Wallace though.

And stupid ass hispanics (catholics) and blacks (have no damn clue why they as a group are scared of gays) to the polls so they can vote down the civil rights they were most recently granted.

2012-01-24 01:54:18 PM
ManateeGag: /Kean is still the best in my lifetime.

Richard Codey was also pretty good. (The state legislature retroactively changed how governors in NJ are counted after Codey so that he became a legitimate NJ governor instead of an interim governor.)

Gwendolyn: And stupid ass hispanics (catholics) and blacks (have no damn clue why they as a group are scared of gays) to the polls so they can vote down the civil rights they were most recently granted.

African-Americans (in California, at least) are overwhelmingly Christians. And African-American voters tend to be older and more church-going than the general population. So, like other church-goin' Christians, they have been told from the pulpit for years that gays hate Jebus and are hell-bound, child-molesting evildoers who deserve to have no rights, and some of them actually believe it.

2012-01-24 02:33:10 PM
He's just recognizing that eventually he will run out of animals to eat and another option must be prepared.

2012-01-24 02:35:07 PM
While putting civil rights to a popular vote is a generally bad thing, is it really any more objectionable than having the thing be determined by a legislature?

Also, the potential for passage by popular referendum in NJ is a hell of a lot better than having to pass it through Christie's desk (which is more likely a veto than not).

Must be nice to be a straight white male.

Nadie_AZ: Must be nice to be a straight white male.

It is. And any straight, white males who tell you otherwise are either liars or morons or both.

However, it's pretty awful being an ignorant straight, white male, because then you have to go through life constantly thinking you're the victim of a conspiracy you can't logically define.

2012-01-24 02:58:48 PM
My religion says that fat marriage is a sin. I demand that the state of New Jersey defend my freedom of religion! Chris Christie being married is an offense against god and man!

See how stupid it sounds?

2012-01-24 02:58:57 PM
Should be right next to the "Should fat abusive loudmouths be allowed to marry" imitative.

2012-01-24 03:01:37 PM
gee I wonder what the founding fathers would say about putting civil rights to a popular vote.

I mean the real founding fathers, not the imaginary versions of them conservatives try to mimic.

2012-01-24 03:03:40 PM
"I would hope the Legislature would be willing to trust the people the way I'm willing to trust the people," Christie said, reiterating his personal opposition to gay marriage. "I think it's the institution of marriage and it's bigger than just a word, it's hundreds of years of tradition both legally and societally and religiously and that's what I stand up in protecting.

Goof point there is religious and traditional backing of when a wife's husband dies she marries his brother. Lets have legislation to force that because tradition and religion is all that matters for civil rights... right?

2012-01-24 03:03:40 PM
This is a cop-out. He wants it to pass but still wants to keep his credentials in case he runs for Prez in 2016.

2012-01-24 03:04:50 PM
WTF Indeed: Awww, Christie is trying to strengthen his conservative credentials because he thinks he'll be on the ticket.

No way two northern, moderate republicans will be on the same ticket. But yes, es gearing for 2016.

2012-01-24 03:05:29 PM
WTF Indeed: Awww, Christie is trying to strengthen his conservative credentials because he thinks he'll be on the ticket.

Please! When he came down to Maryland to shill for Bobby Haircut's attempt to reinsert himself into the Governor's Mansion, he actually hurt his chances. No one wants Christie on a public salary: the food stipend alone would increase the deficit by 20%.

2012-01-24 03:07:57 PM
How 'bout we vote on his right to eat pudding?

2012-01-24 03:08:01 PM
Still, Christie said he would be willing to consider strengthening the legal protections under the state's civil unions law, and when he heard hospitals were denying visitation to same-sex partners, he called on Health Commissioner Mary O'Dowd to look into the matter.

How very big of you, Governor Christie.

2012-01-24 03:08:11 PM
DarnoKonrad: Should be right next to the "Should fat abusive loudmouths be allowed to marry" imitative.

Should we take away farker's right to marry? I say yes.

2012-01-24 03:08:50 PM
Um... This is leagues better than not putting it to a vote. You do realize that the current status quo is no gay marriage, right?

2012-01-24 03:10:13 PM
There should be a referendum on his personal civil rights. All of them.

I'm sure he wouldn't mind.

Hmmm... Perhaps they shouldn't have taken a vote when passing the Constitution.

2012-01-24 03:14:04 PM
Watch it, Lumpy, they'll be after your obese posterior next

2012-01-24 03:14:25 PM
LOL. They're talking about "gay marriage", subby, not civil rights.

2012-01-24 03:14:30 PM
There are reasons we aren't a straight democracy. This is a great example of why.

Outrageous. Why can't New Jersey just have it imposed by a court like we're supposed to handle these things?

2012-01-24 03:15:06 PM
Dude, cut him some slack. He's nominated a Muslim and an openly gay African-American to the New Jersey Supreme Court and ridiculed people who suggested that he was an assclown because of those nominations. Besides that, he could be playing off the latest NJ polls that suggest a majority of his state's residents support same-sex marriage and trying to defuse any possible argument from the opposition that it hasn't been approved through the "proper channels."

2012-01-24 03:16:20 PM
CitizensUnited: LOL. They're talking about "gay marriage", subby, not civil rights.

You really should give up. You have got to be the least effective troll on here by far.

I bet he just met some wealthy Mormon that said they can bankroll the whole effort to get it squashed.

Who has he been hanging out with lately?

2012-01-24 03:18:57 PM
Meanwhile he does nothing about gun rights in NJ, but Gay Marriage, that's something that needs tweaking.

I wonder what they would say about social security, medicare, and ignoring the 9th and 10th amendments unless one wants to smoke weed. I mean the real founding fathers, not the selectively edited versions of them liberals try to claim existed.

2012-01-24 03:20:55 PM
Good idea Christie maybe next we can vote on acceptable weight ranges and if you fall outside that you are forcibly put on a diet/exercise program. If the government is involved in the bedroom why not the kitchen.

Liberals aren't the ones lying about what the founding fathers said and believed in to support their BS positions on issues.

"Imposing" equal protection, which is already the law of the land. So, so horrible.
