Glad Lexington actually welcomes these. Here in Buffalo our resident Tea Party asshole Carl Paladino is fighting food trucks tooth and nail because he's afraid that some of his restaurants will lose revenue to them, so he's pushing City Council to ban them on "health reasons." Way to show your "small government" credentials, you hypocrite.

I cannot wait until food trucks become so much of a commonplace that foodies -- who burn with an ever-present desire to like stuff that other people don't like -- begin rejecting them and converting en masse back to sit-down restaurants.

Portlandia has a whole block in the middle of the city, full of and dedicated to them. It's a strange mixture of curry, thai, BBQ, taco meat and philly cheese steak essence that stagnates the city air in the surrounding four blocks.

How long, then, until some stupid hollerin' redneck tries to reach into a food truck and punch the proprietor because "This shiat ain't barbecue, motherfarker! This is some Chineesey shiat on a bun. Whut you tryin' ta pull, motherfarker?"
Said redneck will then spit terbacky through his or her front teeth and commit a hate crime.

The mainstream media has really been focusing on what hipsters do, eat, wear etc....They know once something goes mainstream, the hipster will go elsewhere. It's almost an attack on the hipster culture. And I'm fine with that.

long ago worked by Newark (Hillside) at an OTC drug/supplement manuf plant. some of the brown guys in their 20's would buy a crapload of hot, seal wrapped sandwiches and take them home for their little brothers and sisters.

Whether it's McDonald's or foodies, they are all feeding into the obesity problem in America. I don't care how artisanal something is, or how many natural/organic ingredients or used, or if the recipe was found on the back of parchment unearthed at Pompeii that give instructions for some wonderfully delectable dessert, or if it's a Big Mac, if you eat too much at the wrong times it will make you overweight. And I can't recall the last foodie show I saw preach restraint in servings.

I love the new food truck movement. It's the gentrification of street food.
Fark you, eat somewhere else day laborer - our food truck now serves 8 dollar artisanal grilled cheese sandwiches.
The best part is that even richer people are saying Fark you, middle class, eat from your hands in the street.

As for restraint, try reading or watching 'foodies' like Mark Bittman or Michael Pollan.

On the upside, new grilled cheese truck a coming, with local ingredients like apples and artisanal cheeses....plus velveeta and bacon, apparently.

Especially considering that, with the prices food trucks are charging now-a-days, your portions are limited by your credit rating and ability to take out a loan.

We don't have food trucks in Toledo. We have Corey. Corey's a black dude who makes the rounds downtown to about 5-7 bars. He usually has a cooler full of hot tamales and whatever else he decided to make. If you order from him a few times, he'll give you his phone number. You can just call him and he'll bring you food. He also sells t-shirts. They even did a newspaper article on him. Apparently this is all legit here, as he hasn't been shut down.

IIRC, our forthcoming food truck is like $3 for the kiddie sammich with plastic cheese food and wonderbread (which used to be baked here, so there is a thing) and only in the $5-8 range for three organic cheeses and local fruit on schmancy bread. At least here the motto for the food trucks is that there is a local pizza and wing place every few blocks so they should be bringing the exotic shiat instead of the roach coach food.
It's also a city with 'foodie' grocery stores, which makes a difference. Where I lived in Philly, the soul food truck was exotic because the condiments in my local grocery were ketchup and mustard, and two kinds of salsa. If you can get 100 cheeses and 20 mustards at every grocery store, paying for two kraft singles on wonderbread is sort of dumb.
I know some people see it as gentrification, but if you can make it better, faster and cheaper at home, there is no reason to go to a food truck. So, they can showcase the shiat you can't make at home.

Haha, look at the simpleton that thinks a grilled cheese can only consist of bread and cheese. Or that all cheese is equal, and all of them are the same price as cheddar or american. Or that the only bread is white and wheat. Or that a small business operating out of a truck is turning such a profit that they can afford to sell everything for $3. Aw, rubes....

We make something like 1/10 the fruit and 1/5 the dairy in the country within 200 miles and we get risotto that DESERVES Gordon Ramsay screaming it, with maximum disdain and all the swearing he leaves out of the British originals of his shows.
This is on my mind because they are meeting
right now
in city council to vote on this again, so I'm waiting for the 'wheres yous batrooms' remix of the day...
/And our food trucks keep winning awards. And the developers don't want them in an empty downtown. :,(
