So basically if he's in another Judd Apatow movie are they really going to attach "Academy Award Nominee" to his name?

LegacyDL: So basically if he's in another Judd Apatow movie are they really going to attach "Academy Award Nominee" to his name?

I could see them going with "Academy Award Loser".

Also, is it bad I had no interest in the 21 Jump Street comedy-remake until I noticed that Ron Swanson was the Chief?

I liked Cyrus. It was quirky and weird. For two actors I really wouldn't normally like to see in a dark comedy it worked out well.

This is the worst Oscar list in years. I'm not surprised EXTREMELY LOUD & INCREDIBLY CLOSE was nominated though. It is the most shameless Oscar bait I've even heard about. It's something right out of Tropic Thunder. Apparently it stars Tom Hanks (DING!), who befriends a kid with autism (DING!), whose father died (DING!)...in 9/11 (DING!) and his grandparents were in the Holocaust (DING! DING! DING!). It looks like the perfect storm of pandering.

Yay Melissa McCarthy!! I don't think the film was Oscar worthy, but she was fun to watch. I really like her, I hope this opens some doors for her.

Are you sure it was not Seth Rogen who got nominated?

I dunno... I thought Warhorse some right up there near the top. They ought to have an Oscar category for shameless Oscar-whoring schlockfests. I'll reserve judgement until I've seen that one.

The Help for Best Picture??? Are you kidding me? I thought that shiat Sandra Bullock football movie a couple years ago was bad enough. Go back to 5 nominees.

I hope The Artist wins every category it's nominated in. Hell, they should just give it the Oscar for Best Picture of 2012 and retroactively make it the Best Picture winner for 2010.

Not that I disagree with you in any way, shape, or form, but Hanks is actually the father who dies in the film.

Oh really? Even better. Obviously I didn't see the film and it could very well be better than Cats but the ads are pretty shameless.

Good God that was terrible. The depiction of gays on the show pissed me off and I've been called a homophobe on numerous occasions for jokes I've made. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I was gay. Well my ass would be sore but I'd also be super pissed at that show.

Since your point was about being baited by the promotion of the film, and yet you were wrong about the main plot point, I felt that you deserved a second admonishment.

I said I didn't see it. I just said that it so blatantly and transparently trotted out all the trappings of pandering Oscar-bait. And apparently I'm not far off, it's 40-something on rottentomatoes, the first time I can recall that in a best picture nom.

No Drive? No Melancholia? No Shame?

Hey look, it's another American, politically correct, big Hollywood wank-fest. Surprise, surprise.

You thought expanding the nominees to 10 was going to help recognize stellar but less hyped/less supported films? No. It just gives the big studios 5 more slots to fill with mediocre, self wanking, bloated shiate.

I saw it last night with the wife. She cried the whole way through. You have the plot basically wrong, but the actors are right.

Tom Hanks (DING!) dies in 9/11 (DING!) who's son is somewhere on the spectrum (DING!). Tom never met his father (DING!) but he shows up and is a mute (mrgsfsfffff).

It was an OK movie overall, despite the room full of weepy housewives. Max Von Sydow should win the supporting actor role, though. His character is completely silent during the entire film, and he is brilliant at it.

I thought Jonah Hill was really good in his role in Moneyball. You wanted a fat awkward economist thrown into the baseball world, and by God did Jonah Hill deliver.

That said, he is even less funny now that he's skinny.
