Romney's problem is the he's the guy every American wishes they were, but none of them like.

"I wish I could jump on a plane and fly to my weekend house wherever I wanted, but I've got to work for a living, unlike that prick,"

It's hilarious that Mitt and his handler's didn't think this type of crap was going to be an issue for him running for president in the worst economy in decades.Their handling of this issue has been a complete cluster fark... Best organized and prepared candidate, my ass.

hmm. I'm starting to think that Romney isn't exactly a 'rank and file' sorta guy. this sort of 'swiss bank account' thing MIGHT lead one to believe that Mitt Romney could have trouble understanding what life for little people is like in this country.

Oh c'mon! He's a man of the streets. He does his own laundry. There were times when he didn't know where his next paycheck would come from.

And yet we're guilty of envying him? What's to envy? This commoner facade, or the real Romney?

He'd better square his narratives, and quick.

As much as I liked Huntsman, he'd also have a hard time breaching that disconnect, what with Daddy helping pay for his campaign & stuff.

The ONLY guy I see that might understand what the 'little guy' has to deal with would be Santorum or RON PAUL.

In short, the entire GOP field is full of nuts. Just different kinds of nuts.

That also being said, when was the last time a poor or middle-class American became President?

Mitt only made her close the Swiss account so she could upgrade to a younger and prettier offshore account in Barbados.

He picked the wrong narrative. It should have been more like "Of course I'm rich. I gained my money when the country's laws made that easy. I would like to go back to those laws, so that you can be rich too. My friends, that is the American dream. Vote for me, I'm not promising to do it for you (fade to Obama picture), but I will make it easier for you to do it for yourself."

The Hell you say! Mitt is the American Dream made flesh: A self-made man who , with his Harvard Business School education, did what any of us could have done: Came out of college and got hired as the CEO of a major Private equity fund, and the fact that he was the sone of a wealthy and powerful poltical figure had NOTHING to do with his success. Why I'm sure your resume or mine was the very next one Bain capital was going to get to if they hadn't settled on Mitt

They never, ever saw an attack from the left coming in the primaries.

The GOP is attacking him for being a good little capitalist. It's a little hard to imagine!

I'm sure there were plenty of times he didn't know where his next check was coming from. Sometimes it was direct deposited into his Swiss account. Sometimes his secretary cashed it for him. Sometimes it was a briefcase full of cash delivered by a black helicopter...

Obama or Clinton (if Upper MC counts as MC) are about the closest we've come since Truman maybe (and then it's a long way back from there) One of the things that struck me during the 08 campaign was Obama quoting his wife about why he should run in 08 rather than wait. She apparently said that Obama should run while he was still "normal". By which she meant the two of them had only recently paid off their student loans, still had a mortgage, had a total net worth including the house of only about $800k etc. so they were still connected to the struggles of ordinary Americans in a way they might not be in the future
