But seriously, Obama could do nothing but repeat a Ronald Reagan speech and the Republicans will cal him a secret socialist muslin.

Fair shake, chicken in every pot, whatever. Old, tired, busted.

-- Tax reform so that wealthy Americans pay more and the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 expire

Eliminating the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts means EVERYONE pays more. So the wealthy pay A LOT more, but everyone's going to pay to support the next Solyndra. Leadership!

-- More refinancing for homeowners in trouble

Oh, yes, please. Because so far it's worked like a dream.

-- Additional tax breaks for companies that bring back jobs to the United States

Fark the companies that never left. Let's create new rules that increase the discretion of the federal government to share the wealth. If you're keeping track, the talking points are "companies are evil, except when they can be bribed." Great thinking.

-- Enhanced education and job-training initiatives, especially for high school graduates seeking technical degrees

What is this, 2008? Has this guy forgotten that he did all this before? Does he think anyone's stupid enough to buy this crap? That a couple evening classes in Microsoft Office is going to turn the tide and bring employment back to where it was when Obama took office?

Disappointing, even for Obama

I think he should do "A Fair Shakedown." He can start by passing the hat around Congress, asking them to donate what they will of all funds gained from investments in firms they now are writing legislation for, and to pledge their anticipated fees when they get voted out and become lobbyists.

Serious Black: Insist that the tax code should be written so that every American must do their own taxes without hiring an accountant or a team of lawyers to minimize their liability.

You know who benefits from tax code complexity? Rich people. Because they've paid for lobbyists to convince lawmakers to insert [pet deduction] into the tax code. Invariably, the phrase 'simplify the tax code' is a euphemism for lowering rates on the wealthy while foisting higher taxes onto the middle and working classes.

From what I've read, the President is going to come out swinging with this speech. The White House is already going on about the "We Can't Wait" projects and programs that the President has authority to initiate without Congress's approval.

That, combined with the decidedly partisan tone of the impending SoTU speech, means that he's going into campaign mode. Personally, I can't wait to see him start scalping the GOP contenders.

Headso: Sounds reasonable, I don't see how the republicans will find a way to come out against tax cuts for companies that hire in the US but I am sure they will.

"It's effectively a tax INCREASE on companies that hire outside the US, as their goods will cost more to produce and therefore those costs will be passed on to the consumer. So people who want the economic freedom to buy a Honda or a Sony product will now have to pay more than others. It's economic isolationism and another step down the path to socialism. If you want true economic freedom you need to eliminate the barriers to doing business in the US: get rid of the minimum wage and the job killing EPA. It's the regulations that are hurting businesses."

As a moderate GOP voter its good to see Obama pulling away from the meaningless "hope" and "change" vauguities that catapulted him into office. I think he puts forward some very important ideas and is zeroing in on the areas America has slipped over the years. IF he keeps the message consistent and practices what he preaches while finishing up this term, he might be worth a second look. At the moment Gingrich scares the shait outta me, and Romney is simply not an inspirational candidate that I'd rally around and frankly hasn't been acting like someone I'd be proud to say represents our country. This is going to be an interesting year.

By taking away the ability for American companies to hire the people they need, Obama encourages illegal immigration. By crippling foreign economies, he sets the stage for them to become dependent on American foreign aid. Obama doesn't want American dollars to stay in America, he wants to give them to poor people overseas. These are your tax dollars, heartland of America, and Fartbongo is re-distributing your wealth to Muslims and terrorists around the world.

I know :(

UNLESS the Dems were at all competent in politics.

"This will HELP the rich as a high tide floats all boats, economically, and since it's DEMAND that creates jobs and not 'charitable rich people', this will provide a boon to the middle class."

"If you aren't willing to pay your fair share in taxes, and if you're hiding your money overseas, you are taking money from the troops. How many soldiers could your tax dollars have bout armor for? Medical supplies? Food? You on the right keep talking about war, but when it's time to actually support the troops, you need to start walking the walk"

Sadly, the Dems can't message. Anything. Ever.
