(WLSAM) Obvious Dear Mr. President, in your SOTU speech this evening, I suggest you avoid talking about your first term in office. It won't do you a damn bit of good. Sincerely, Rahm   (wlsam.com) divider line 68

I'm sure he'll highlight some successes, but no, like all State of the Union speeches, it will be about what needs to be done. Ooooo! Controversy.

Uh, yeah, you guys were so busy looking forward that you wouldn't punish the criminals that went before you.

That's not a good thing.

They've already leaked reports that his State of the Union is going to be a full-blown partisan speech intended to finally strike back against the GOPers and answer their criticisms.

As I understand it, this is his way of opening his campaign. It's Duck Season and they're all Daffy.

fark that clown ass. I don't know why everyone considers him a political heavyweight. He accomplished nothing.

From the article:

The mayor told a panel at the University of Chicago that the president should say very little about his first term, and focus on what he would do in a second term. Emanuel said, "What you do with the first term is say, 'I inherited a mess, I did what I could to stabilize it, and here's what we're gonna do.' " (new window)

And watch at the end of the speech he'll say "God Bless the United States" the NDAA police will kick in the doors, throw some flash grenades and haul away each member of the GOP before a military tribunal before being deported to Guantanamo bay for water-boarding.

While a small part of me chuckles at the vision of Karma coming back to get the GOP for all their fascist-leaning efforts, seeing that happen for real would be horrifying.

and for my next 4 years, I'm going to do what I want."

/it could happen...

If I was the president during the SOTU address I would say something like "...and for my conspiracy theory obsessed detractors, I was not born in America. I was in fact created on the moon by the New World Order. But do not be concerned about that, you will find much greater matters to worry over in the near future."

And then I would have the signal cut off omniously with some sort of occult symbol suddenly appear on the screens.

he will first ( and briefly ) say what has gotten done. healthcare, financial regulation, stabilize economy, net job growth.

then he will lay out what he want to tack in the second term. Immigration, tax reform, deficit and debt reduction, infrastructure etc. it will incorporate most of what the occupy movement was biatchin about but won't mention them. Cause really most of us agreed with them (except for paying off student loans).

They've got common man Mitch Daniels lined up to sing about All The President's Failures, but Boehner's lip is already pouting and whiny Reince is out there trying to spin the speech that hasn't been given yet.

At the Capitol, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Tuesday that Obama's policies "are just going to double down on what hasn't worked. ... It sounds like we're going to see a rerun of what we've seen over the last three years."

"This president is the king of promises ... but the problem is he does not follow through with anything," RNC Chairman Reince Preibus said in a conference call with reporters Tuesday morning. "Obama speaks, lays out promises and recycles them in another speech, and Americans are left empty-handed."

You do know that only 20% or so of Bain equity investments were liquidated in the first 2 years right? The majority of investments took a failing business and made them profitable again. The horror! The businesses they took over generally were not profitable. Should they keep a failing business open forever on the power of rainbows and unicorns? Take it you support to big to fail.

Emanuel said, "What you do with the first term is say, 'I inherited a mess ...' "

argh. No, that's not what you do, because no matter how very true this is, you come across as whiny when you point this out three years later. Everyone from the finest Republican thinkers in their lofty spires all the way down to the lowliest Politics Tab troll alt would pounce upon hearing that.

I'm absolutely certain that Mitch Daniels has a pre-written piece of snark at the ready, in the event Obama mentions inheriting a mess.

Good. That would be a wise thing to do. The more successful he is at spreading the idea that Republicans are why we can't have nice things, the the better he'll do in November. It's also part of a strategy to reduce Repubs' majority in the House and keep them from taking the Senate.

Also good. Necessary, but maybe not sufficient.

Final piece of the puzzle is giving people reasons to get off their butts and go to the polls in November. Any random Obama politics tab thread will show you that some who voted for him in '08 are extremely disillusioned for various reasons, NDAA to name one, and he's got some groveling to do to win enough of them back to make a win more likely...

Just a pet peeve here, but...

NDAA was a no-win situation for him. They had veto-proof majorities to go with that bill. He could either sign it or veto it and it'd get passed into law over his objections.

And while those objections would look good to those who are in the know about how the system works, it'd have made him look weak and helpless before the Congress and that'd have been far worse for him in the long term.

If you want someone to get mad at over the NDAA thing, go look up your Congressmen, I'm willing to bet that they voted for it directly.
