More money does not mean better schools. Don't believe me? Look at DC. Highest per student cost in the nation. Does anyone want to argue they have the best schools??

The Stealth Hippopotamus: More money does not mean better schools. Don't believe me? Look at DC. Highest per student cost in the nation. Does anyone want to argue they have the best schools??

In isolation, your statement is correct. But there are many more factors at play, as I'm sure you know -- the most important being family. The reason the cost per pupil is so high in DC is that there are so many dysfunctional families and the high cost results from having to pay for tons of specialized education programs to make up for the lack of an education-friendly environment at home.

But by all means, keep repeating that to yourself as way to rationalize your opposition to increased aid to education. There's no way any of this starving of our childrens' programs will ever come back to bite us in the future.

Education funding does not bring in tourist dollars.

Too bad they don't realize they will never see that much in the way of tourist dollars from the Noah's Ark park. They would do a lot better building a dinosaur themed park instead.

I've been to the Creation Museum. I went in the evening on a Tuesday, and that place was farking packed. I'd say it was about 70% Mennonite/Amish, but there were a lot of people. And before an hour before closing, museum admission is $25. This thing is a cash cow. That said, theme parks are much larger enterprises, and this is a terrible idea. It's doomed to go under.

Further, people in KY wonder why others see us as backwards morons. Just look at our leadership.

Interestingly enough, this is actually quite an old conflict within the Church. The great Church Father Origen, among others, argued for allegorical interpretations of Genesis. Even back in the 4th century, St. Augustine took his fellow Christians to task for literally interpreting Genesis.

Nothing is to be accepted save on the authority of Scripture, since greater is that authority than all the powers of the human mind. ~ Augustine

Probably, so far as I know, there is no professor of Hebrew or Old Testament at any world-class university who does not believe that the writer(s) of Genesis 1-11 intended to convey to their readers the ideas that (a) creation took place in a series of six days which were the same as the days of 24 hours we now experience; . . . Or, to put it negatively, the apologetic arguments which suppose the "days" of creation to be long eras of time, the figures of years not to be chronological, and the flood to be a merely local Mesopotamian flood, are not taken seriously by any such professors, as far as I know. ~ James Barr Regius Professor of Hebrew at Oxford University in England

Whoever takes another meaning out of Scripture than the writer intended, goes astray, but not through any falsehood in Scripture. ~ Augustine

Why are you so racist? Why don't just come out and blame it on the black people!

Sorry couldn't help myself.

But really, why do you think that DC has more problems then KY?? That may just be true. I don't know. Could be the same. If KY really does have less problem children then they could use less money with no problems. People have a false equation! They think dollars equal education. That's just not true. Odds are they have plenty of money going to the school system.

Speaker2Animals: But by all means, keep repeating that to yourself as way to rationalize your opposition to increased aid to education. There's no way any of this starving of our childrens' programs will ever come back to bite us in the future.

I would love to increase the level of education.

if it's such a cash cow, why does it need to be subsidized by the state government?

Your guess is as good as mine, but speaking from first-hand experience, this thing is pretty well-funded. They might be bullshiat exhibits, but they'nce nice ones and it looks like no expense was spared.

Also, security there is armed. That just kind of stuck with me.

Subsidy: 1. A sum of money granted by the government or a public body to assist an industry or business so that the price of a commodity or service...
2. A sum of money granted to support an arts organization or other undertaking held to be in the public interest.

If someone mugs you, and only takes half your cash, does that mean he is subsidizing you?

I think this is smart. Less education funding means things like less teachers or less instructional materials, but the schools still have to fill in those hours. So.... field trips to Noah's Park (or whatever the hell it's called)!

Your metaphor only works if everyone agrees that common taxation amounts to muggings...which most sane people don't.

It's a subsidy.

The Stealth Hippopotamus: More money does not mean better schools. Don't believe me? Look at DC. Highest per student cost in the nation. Does anyone want to argue they have the best schools??

While this is true, less money does correlate with worse schools.

There is a point of diminishing returns at right around $8000 per student. More than that really doesn't buy you anything. Drop below about $6500 a student and you begin to see a drop in student performance.

Interesting quote!

So people who pretend that the story of Noah's Ark is meant to be taken literally instead of accepting it as the allegory it was written to be have "gone astray?"

Do you concede that you, Bevets, have "gone astray" for misunderstanding the bible?
