I double-dog dare him to make that same call in Philadelphia.

He is charged with aggravated battery, resisting a police officer, and battery with intent to provoke or insult - all felonies - records indicate.
Yet, from the story previous, we learned that child endangerment is a misdemeanor. Though, yes, different jurisdictions. Still. So, if this guy pushed a child with intent to provoke or insult...

So cops just show up on challenges to fights now? Unless he was doing something that really required a police intervention, why did they even bother to visit the guy?

As much as this guy is a complete ass, pushing someone doesn't seem like it meets the definition of "aggravated" battery.

Seriously. If I called you up and said, "Come over here and fight me." And you showed up, what exactly is the crime? We're not talking about a Burr-Hamilton loss of honor if you don't show up. I expect once the District Attorney gets a hold of this, the cops will be charged with at least reckless endangerment and hopefully attempted manslaughter.

Screwing around with 911 will always bring the cops.

/My thoughts exactly. No crime committed, tell the guy to stfu and take a nap. Or commit a crime. Either way, no reason to show up if no crime was committed.

Right. Non-emergency use of 911 is a crime.

If he was making non-emergency calls to 911 then a crime was comitted.

I wonder if they had the list of charges drawn up before they even got there. They had to know how that was going to play out...

I read it that he couldn't get a job/medical care/girlfriend/life and that prison would be better than what he had (or didn't have).

In total agreement. He's obviously a twatwaffle, but 3 felony charges for pushing seems a little on the harsh side.
Maybe if he could of pulled a black female officer's hair, they could have really gone all out with racially aggravated sexual battery or something.

Suppose you went down to the police station and stood outside yelling "I'm going to fight you! I want to beat up a cop!" Do you expect that they would ignore it? Or maybe come outside to check if you were a threat and see what your problem was. Then, you make good on your threat and (allegedly) push the officers and then struggle with them.
I have no problem with that being a crime.

First off because he called 911 police are obliged to show up regardless of the what you say on the phone also that defense wouldn't work in general for calling a random stranger. Say you call joe schmoe and say "Come over my to my house so I can shoot you!" if joe schmoe comes over you can't shoot him and say "Well I told him what was going to happen"

So if a person were set a trap in a house, and wanted to lure the police into it, all they would have to do is call them and offer to fight?

Not sure where you're at, but here the government in California tells people to call 911 for most all non-emergency situations. If you think you see someone acting strange, complain about a neightbor, unattended lunch sack, broken waterpipe etc, etc.
They find it easier to tax for 911 services and shrink the non-emergency police phone budget. Then next voting year they ask for more 911 money, new multi-million dollar building because their volume has gone up.

I knew a guy like this. He'd commit some random petty crime so he'd go to jail whenever he "felt the crazy coming on."
He couldn't afford the psychiatric care for whatever he was diagnosed with, so spending a few days in jail where they had to take care of him was some sort of stopgap solution.
The article says this guy's a sex offender, so maybe he was trying to get locked up to prevent doing whatever he did again? or attempted suicide by cop like someone mentioned above
