But perhaps more disturbing is the death was one of four on the city's subway system in less than 24 hours.
Police say the mishaps are unrelated Mondays totals, are waiting for Tuesday to roll around.

If the investigation isn't handled properly, more heads will roll...

Police could not say how the man, whose name has not yet been released, was killed.

Well here's a lead i found in another article, officer.

he became pinned by an oncoming L train and the subway platform. At the Sixth Avenue station, around 10 p.m. at night. The force of the train caused his head to become severed from his body.

/some fine policework, there

"A" headless body in the NY subway system? There's gotta be a half dozen on just the A lines.

Six blocks west, the severed head of an unidentified male was seen wedged between the car and platform at the L train station on 14th Street and Sixth Avenue at about 10pm that evening.
Police could not say how the man, whose name has not yet been released, was killed.

It may have something to do with being wedged between the car and platform. That's just a guess, though.

What happens a lot of the time, is people drop things on the track and jump down to get it, not realizing how hard it is to get back up. Then the train comes and either cuts them in half, twists them repeatedly at the midsection like a screwdriver or flattens them.

Then they make an announcement about delays because of a sick passenger. Stupid dead idiot making me late to work.

Ugh, I was actually on the train that killed the man who had his head severed. We felt a noticeable bump and then stopped awkwardly in the station. They kept the doors closed for a really long time. It was then that we all started noticing the blood splatter on the platform. Then people from further up began filtering back and letting us know that there was a body. There was a burning smell which presumably must have been parts of the poor soul singed on the tracks. When they finally opened the doors, the poor mans head was only a few feet away, wedged between the train and platform. A horrific expression stuck on his face, which is burned into my mind. My poor boyfriend made the mistake of looking down the gap between the train and platform and apparently saw the man's innards. We left when the paramedics arrived and announce the DOA. It was a truly horrific experience I had hoped I could go my entire life without having. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. My boyfriend and I are still shaken.

So, if you find a headless body, but not the one one they're looking for, do they have to toss it back, or can they keep it?

Caption FTA: Tragic: Brian O'Mara, 22, was struck and killed by another L train after wandering in the tunnel near the West 14th Street and Third Avenue stop

After he got hit the first time, one would figure he would have stayed out of there.

(My friend had a dog that used to chase cars - and catch them. After the third trip to the vet he gave him to someone that had a farm and lots of room to roam. No, really.)

That's crazy, it sounds like the heads of people who get hit in a subway have a tendency to become wedged between the side of the train and the tunnel. It's surprising that there would be enough of anything recognizable left after getting dragged between the two for any length. At least it's a quick way to go, if gruesome.

He was stuck between the train and platform and was very recognizable save for a few gashes.

Err, there have been cases of people getting "corkscrewed" between train and tunnel wall, where the victim survives long enough for someone to call the family to say goodbye to him/her. Something about the pelvis being narrower than the shoulders, so the bottom half of the body spins while the torso stays put.

woah. I caught the Brooklyn-bound L train from Union Square a shade after 10pm last night. Must have been the last train before they shut down the line. Sounds awful.

I'd be surprised if there's only one. A lot of people live in the same place, stacked on top of each other over time. There's bound to be a lot of bodies/pieces hiding in there.

/archaeologist. Humans were disturbing before overcrowding and large populations could hide crime. *shiver*
