Those are the cutest spiders I have ever seen. But the male spider reminds me of SNL's Two Wild and Crazy Guys skits. Or the What is Love grinders.

How can they move so quickly? Gotta be CGI.
Also, was that the same race of spider that pegged the little fella? What was that about?

That was some cool and freaky stuff. Nature is delightfully weird.

hipsellipsis: Also, was that the same race of spider that pegged the little fella? What was that about?

Another Friday night of some chick draining a guy dry and he doesn't even get to hit it.

It was. It's typical for female spiders to eat the males, who are often smaller than said females.

/poor wee dude.

How many different cameras were focused on this abomination at once? I swear that must have been at least ten 70's-esque action replays when he lifted the hood.

I know it's incorrect to anthropomorphize nature, but near the beginning when they are kind of twitching and rubbing their faces with their chelicerae (? I think), they really have this kind of shy, apprehensive, "Should I go talk to her? Should I go talk to her?" look.

I feel ya, little spider dude. I know that feeling well. ;)

That "arm-waving" was the cutest thing I've seen in a while, and that includes a bunny eating a banana. Hey! Hey! Lookup'ere! Lookup'ere!

Note to self:

Dear Self,
Do NOT click spider links at 12:40AM. Now, I've told you this before. Did you listen? No. Of course you didn't. Because you thought you knew better. You thought maybe this time it wouldn't be an eight-legged monster whose only goal in life was to sneak into your bedroom and get up under your sheets and then farking crawl all over your body. You thought "hey, this time I won't have nightmares!" You thought "aw, this one might be cute and cuddly." And so you clicked the link. And what did you find? Huh? Huh? That's right- a nightmarish creepy crawly thing that looks like it's going to tap tap tap on your shoulder after it crawls all over you and then raise some unholy technicolor antenna to send all the thoughts it's sucking out of your brain up to the Mother Ship from Planet Arachnicon Delta. That's what you found. Well, enjoy tonight's nightmare, Self. That is, if you can sleep. Oh, and make sure the covers are tucked in REAL tight all the way around. And next time, do NOT click spider links at 12:40AM. That is all.

Signed: Your self.

Well, this is about as cute as spiders get. If you can't handle these guys, best you keep under those covers.

/well... cute except for what happens after the "she's not interested in mating" part.

You evidently don't frequent the club scene.

Anyway, I hate spiders more than anything but jumping spiders are pretty cute and these are amazing. Plus their 'tailfeathers' look kind of like another spider. Like that's the one the female wants, then his ugly wingman is the one who tries to put the moves on her. Yeah, I'm sure a lot of them get eaten for that bait-and-switch.

The big plan...
1) Capture said spiders, genetically modify until growth size is that of an average human.
2) Train and use as airplane marshallers.
3) Bonus points for genetically modifying with phospheressenct abilities/glow in the dark.
4) Profit !!!

If faced with a choice between being burned alive or wrapped up and killed by a spider, I'd choose the fire.

Faster, and less terrifying.

You know, I got to thinking about that too the other night while playing Skyrim. I was in one of the early ruins where there is a guy all spun up in a web, and as you approach a giant spider drops down from the ceiling. If you leave the room the spider will run over to the guy who screams for help and mercy, and it made me think about much it really would suck to be eaten alive. And not just eaten, but having every last drop of moisture sucked from your body while you hang there paralyzed and helpless. And then there is the manner; it wouldn't be like falling asleep while giving blood and having the nurses forget about you. No, your living essence is being cyphoned away by this static.flickr.com gnawing and masticating away while giving you the equivalent of a hickey from the devil. And they're not fast eaters, either. I had a tarantula take days to work through a feeder mouse, which proportionally would be about equal to the man/giant spider from the dungeon. I'm not really sure how long the mouse was alive through the ordeal, but it didn't look like it could be much fun. I guess what I'm trying to say is yeah, I would probably take the burning too.
