All I can think of is they are stripping them for parts. So you get the joy of flying in a spaceship made up of parts from broken spaceships.

I think I found the history behind this one, based on the chalk signature of "31.10.01":

It was the one that carried Dennis Tito, the first "Space Tourist".

I find it even more amazing that Livejournal is still in operation.

Which one is the capsule they baked that cosmonaut in? You know the one that came out like an over done roast when the capsule crashed.

It's like 80s-era Doctor Who threw up in there.

Wish I could see these. I have all of .ru blocked so I don't accidentally on one of those circular-linking aggregator sites full of suspicious javascript :P

The Soviet did a lot of things horribly wrong, but space was generally not one of them.

I want one. No, TWO.

I figured this link would be one of the incomplete Buran shuttles (new window).

American space stations look like the cabinet design center at Ikea. Russian space stations look like the insides of a 1961 Philco TV set.

FTFA: 4.

(According to Google Translate, you are correct!)

If I was him I would want that in my collection.

Put a big round mattress in it add a wet bar some mood lighting and you have the ultimate shaggin' pad

Actually, Livejournal is huge in Russia. It was sold to some Russian company a few years back.

So what's the deal? Isn't every single American manned spacecraft that returned successfully in a museum? And even all the test articles that are good enough to display? Heck, wealthy Japanese paid millions to refurbish a fake American space shuttle ("Pathfinder") for an exhibition. Why can't Russia monetize these things? Even if they're in bad shape some enthusiasts somewhere in the world would restore them and many cities in the world have science museums that lack a flown spacecraft exhibit.

From what I gather with Google translate the poster claims to have photographed them personally, but won't say where.

I don't buy it.

It looks like he stole someones photos of a behind the scenes tour of some massively underfunded museum / collection. The photos aren't just row after row of stripped Soyuz's, but what seems to be a varied collection of artifacts they don't have room to display.

I thought it was just going to be a picture of the sea. Or the desert around Baikonur.

that's not a graveyard, it's the spacecraft rental place, I suggest you get the extra insurance before taking one out for a spin though

Whats up with that chair??... I figured being on top of a giant rocket you'd need something a little more supporting than a folding chair from the local high school.

Thank Peter the Great for that.

The scientific community probably is eternally grateful for it.

Launch couches are fitted to the individual cosmonaut. Since that interior looks to be stripped of most of its gear it just might be something tossed in by a technician at the facility.
