A recent poll conducted in Hong Kong revealed that 70% of couples desired "dragon babies,"

"We have dwagon baby! Oh it is girl. We throw in dumpster. Try again."

Asia, Asia or China Asia

It's a rip off. One of my kids is a dragon baby and can't breath fire or anything. Total gip.

/the ram likes to run into things though, so I guess that one worked

2012-01-23 06:32:30 PM
Actually, given the shape of its population pyramid after so many years of the one-child policy, China might need those kids to take care of all the old people. China is going to be a very old country in 30 years.

The Great Hunt was amazing. After that the series became progressively more boring.
(Which sucks because I really liked the first two)

Read cliffnotes, then pick it back up at 11 (aka where Jordan figured out that he had to advance the plot) or 12(where Sanderson took over).

/Also, if anyone ever cares to do a "Just the bits with Matt" for books 4-10, that would totally be worth reading.

I was born in a dragon year and I can assure you that my peers and I are only slightly better than the rest of you. Do not panic, non dragon year babies can still grow up to be healthy, happy and productive adults.

China has a HUGE working population... now. BUT WHAT HAPPENS when they get old and it's time to retire? You have millions upon millions of chinese unable to work and getting benefits. And with the One Child policy reducing the number of the next generation, who's gonna pay for all those benefits?

30 years from now, the average chinese worker will be paying 70% of his income in taxes to support these old chinese, who will be literally filling the streets.

There is this weird thing about the chinese culture, they tend to save money compared to Americans. I wish out government helped encourage saving rather than this pyramid scheme.

For the sake of the country they will be painlessly and humanely put down.
Unless you are part of the ruling elite of course.

Why do you think China has such lax safety policies and no air pollution standards? Because it's easier just to kill them early instead of worrying about how to pay for them when they get old! Imagine if there was an OSHA and an EPA in China and everyone lived to be 90! There'd be 12 billion of them by now!

Yes and no. They'll have to figure out some way to support the oldies. And, seriously, if you think workplace discrimination is bad in the US, China has is beat. You can't be the insane 12-hour-on/12-hour-off robot the export sector needs past 40. You're a wrecked shaking shell of a person by then. And so you're expected to go back to your rural village (since you were never allowed to be an official residence of the coastal manufacturing centers in the first place).

But, there's no legally mandated safety net. Not through taxation. The oldsters get cared for by guilt-tripping the youngins. When the youngins stop sending money back? That's when it all goes to hell.

If they want a baby boom they better start building cheaper apartments over there...

"70% of [Chinese] women require house before marriage."

http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2012-01/05/content_14386646.htm

And that "80 percent of single women believe only men who make more than 4,000 yuan($634) a month deserve to have a relationship with a woman" bit should be read with the understanding that the average college graduate in China won't be making that salary without a few years experience.

I really don't think their birth rate is going anywhere for quite a while.

My sister was born in 1964 and she's a real biatch. But that's her, I'm sure you're very pleasant.

WTF is a wood dragon? The first time he breathes fire, he's farked.

The chinese are srsbznz about that stuff, man. I've had at least one girl who a (female) friend was trying to set me up with who was interested until she found out my chinese zodaic sign, and then it was story over because the combination was inauspicious.

/i know, I know, it was just an excuse etc etc

Mugato: WTF is a wood dragon? The first time he breathes fire, he's farked.

The Chinese Zodiac has 2 rotating phases. It rotates through the more well-known 12 animal signs every (duh) 12 years, but there's also 5 elements that it rotates through every time those 12 years rotate through. The elements, iirc, are wood, water, earth, metal and fire.

This means that your individual actual Chinese Zodaic animal sign only comes around once every 60 years.
