God. I hope they found a bag of weed in his carry on. Things would go nuclear.

"Unbelievable...obviously they know who he is and are harassing him because he opposes their gestapo tactics."

Awesome.

Free thinker...or Freemason?

Detaining a Senator which sits on the committee that governs you is not the brightest ideal.....of course this presupposes that the TSA is bright and we know the answer to that.

"They never give ron paul the respect that he deserve. But when it comes to bashing him and his family, they're all about that. That just proves that he's ( Ron Paul) right about everything."

omigod, I love these people. This is so much fun. Thanks Subs!

They are energy efficient. And probably contain too much mercury.

So in closing, the TSA might not be the brightest bulb on the tree, but they are at least partly fluorescent.

/Somewhat dim, too much ballast, and hard to get rid of without a hazmat suit.

"[Members of Congress] shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same" - U.S. Cont. art. I § 6, cl. 1. (emphasis added)

The Senate is in session today at 2pm. Granted they'd probably just say there's a reasonable suspicion that a felony is about to be committed, but it would be worth using just to see the confused/horrified look on the TSA agent's face when you pull out the ol' speech and debate clause.

He is lucky. If it were us, the TSA would detain us, arrest us on some trumped up charge that would have a $10,000 fine, kick us out of the airport and put us on a permanent do not fly list before we were shipped off to the FEMA camp and held under the NDAA signed by Obama.

///gotta love the new police state. Gotta love the liberal gloat/attacks on Paul.

I think he's a hero for taking a stand. I'm a liberal but have no qualms with sharing some beliefs with the Paul family and a belief in the overreach of the TSA is one of them. Good for him.

I disagree with Paul on a lot of things, but not this.

2012-01-23 01:44:37 PM
RAND PAUL is correct about this being unconstitutional, but the sheep in the US are more afraid of the big bad terrorists instead of the real threats to this country.

2012-01-23 01:45:12 PM
Oh my god!

That's it! I'm buying that bunker and adding to my stockpile of guns and ammo and canned beans with more guns, ammo and maybe some canned spinach for that Popeye effect.

What stand? He consented to a search: "More info - there was an "anomaly" in Rand's initial body scan, so my son requested to be scanned a second time. TSA demanded a full body pat down and Rand refused."

It's not really taking a stand to say "you can do an unreasonable, useless, puppet show search on me this way, but not that way."

Good: Perhaps this will attract more attention from Congress on this issue.

Bad: It had to take it happening to one of their own to get Congress's attention, even after tons of complaints, letters written, & calls made to representatives to call attention to this issue.

Ugly: plenty of constituents would still rather be inconvenienced, groped, & violated than "take their chances with the terrorists."

Yeah, perhaps, but detaining a sitting Senator on his way to session might be a big enough embarrassment to stall some of the stupider bits of TSA screenings. I hope he makes a big deal out of it. Although I generally disagree with him on a lot of other stuff, the TSA is generally stupid.

2012-01-23 02:19:16 PM
I'm with the TSA here. If there is an anomaly in Mr. Paul's pants, we need to know about it!! I'm just ashamed that the TSA won't come out and tell us the real threat of Mr. Paul's lower regions.

2012-01-23 02:22:52 PM
this is the closest the TSA has come to protecting us in a long time.

The more Reps and Senators that get stopped by this, the quicker they'll fix it.

5 will get you 10 that it was a vibrator in Rand's ass that set off the scanner.

/Of course, it's company policy never to imply ownership in the event of a dildo. We have to use the indefinite article, "a dildo", never ... your dildo.

I strongly encourage the TSA to fark with sitting legislators as often as possible.

I would like to take this opportunity to point out that Rand Paul is named after an egotistical atheist who associated Libertarianism with Anarchism.

That's all.

2012-01-23 02:30:58 PM
I thought senators were exempt from this? Possibly a publicity stunt?

I'm guessing, "there's nothing about the TSA in the Constitution."

Seems like the White House was in favor of detaining Mr. Paul thereby preventing his constituents from the redress of grievences by delaying Pauls travels.

Why does whoever is in the White House hate constitutional rights?

meat0918: The more Reps and Senators that get stopped by this, the quicker they'll fix it.

I propose a new rule. All Congressmen and Senators are deemed "persons of interest". After all, who has more potential to destroy America at any given time...some guy in a cave in Afghanistan or Rand Paul?

2012-01-23 02:34:37 PM
I'm sure no attention-whore asshattery was involved.
