But no video of my favorite, Please Do Not Go. Bummer.

I just don't have the energy to watch that. Or, frankly, the inclination.

At least you felt it important to tell us all that. That's what really matters.

Not shocking. he's the only one who could have played it.

Nope nope... too geeky. Not even in an amusing way.

2012-01-23 11:37:29 AM
If you're going to say Amanda Palmer and the Dresden Dolls, you may as well either just say the Dresden Dolls or Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione.

And no, I'm not watching that. I used to love her, but her "outrageousness" just gets boring after a while, like Gaga.

Cool subby? Only if you think butchering one of the best albums of all time is 'cool'.

The music was good, but that skank screeching out the lyrics was bloody awful.

I'll just listen to the Violent Femmes instead.

At Lollapalooza one year she "accidentally" flashed her boobs while changing her clothes on stage. They were unimpressive.

People sure get butthurt about Amanda Palmer.

It's kind of amusing that people care that much about an entertainer they don't like.

/sad, but amusing

That was kinda cool and probably really cool to actually be there.

Would some of you liked it better if they did 'DSotM'?

Brian needs to find a Weight Watchers and fast.

Pretty cool. I am not a fan of the Violent Femmes but that was neat.

i'll agree with subby and admit that its pretty nifty, perhaps only to see the dolls together onstage after awhile, but its nowhere near as goosebump inducing as their covers of shiat like War Pigs, Ballad of a Teenage Queen, Mad World or Karma Police. this was pretty much lacking that unique DD flair that makes their cover songs exciting

We saw War Pigs in Lexington during the DD reunion tour and it was amazing. Amanda, btw, is a very sweet person.

Love me some Amanda Palmer.

If you don't - well, thanks for taking time out of your busy gym schedule to share that. I could have suggested you merely don't watch or listen to it, but I realize that would remove precious minutes you can biatch and moan about - and I'd hate to stand in the way of your misery.

Of course, many of you are so sensible that you avoid watching or listening - and cut straight to the righteous pleasure of complaint. I compliment you on your efficiency!

Timelady and Knara:

Here's the thing: Fark is a website where links are published, and we gather to talk about them, both positively and negatively. The Dresden Dolls tend to attract a lot of the latter because, well, they suck. It is perfectly valid for someone with good taste who has been exposed to their music to pop in and make mention of how awful they are. If you are looking for exclusively positive feedback about the group I imagine they have a website of some sort; failing that you could go to PretentiousshiattyBands.com. Here on Fark, we will continue to mock away.

No one here has obviously worked for her or knows her. She treats her artists and designers very well.

Don't mind remakes, alternatives, or homage.....
Some are pretty well done, even if redone in a completely different genre (eg. Hurt by JC)

These videos left me underwhelmed.

Probably because she was performing them in the original key, which is way too low for her vocal range, or way too high if she takes it up an octave. Transpose the songs to a more comfortable key, then try again, Amanda.

I'm there with you. That album is one of my Desert Island albums. This is just memories being raped. It's like Spielberg made a tribute album.

Yep, no need to roll out the welcome to fark jog. Nor is it a 'headshot', my head remains intact. I have been around so long now that little surprises me here:) Fark is for snark, no doubt:) but when one snarks at the snarkers, as it were, one gets told no, this is the way of the Farker(tm), do not criticize! I argue that this is the very raisin d'être of Fark - to pontificate, to hold animated and often aggressive discourse. Only the soliloquy is frowned upon:)

Meh. Both sides are valid. I regret nothing, except a lack of caffeine:)

And she's amazing to meet and hang out with, btw. Seriously warm and funny and centre of party stuff, with zero ego. If you get a chance to attend a ninja gig, shed bias for just a bit and try.

/ Having said that, I loathe Justin Beiber but will defend to the death your right to like him. Or not. And your right to Fark snark. Or not:)))

Mocking is fine, even encouraged. Mirthless complaints not so much.

Pointing out how very seriously people seem to take their hate of Amanda Palmer (so much so that their dislike of her leaks off to a dislike of Neil Gaiman for simply having married her) is never mirthless.

Dresden Dolls first album was and still is interesting and they aren't bad love. The Yes, Virginia No, Virginia albums were terrible. Haven't listened anything by them past that.

So I've seen DD live and liked the shows a lot for two people who are locked into stationary instruments.

I think as the Dolls they really work playing off each other. I was sold seeing Brian drum like a mad man during War Pigs. It seams they changed and Amanda isn't particularly good alone. I really hate her ukulele pieces.

I still wish for old Dolls, but that probably will never happen again.

Well, I was there for the first Femmes tour in 82 or 83, and saw them about 5 times, the last being in the early 90s. And they were also a spot on band.

This is nice and all that she is doing a tribute, but it is complete crap. She does not convey the angst of the originals, she is a farking aging hipster.

That seems to be a common trait amongst girls who let it grow. They can't just let it grow, they have to make sure that you KNOW they do, and WHY they do it.

Whatever.

Two words. Evelyn Evelyn. My daughters talked me in to listening to that on a road trip a few years ago. That CD made me think of the two-word review for Spinal Tap's album Shark Sandwich.

I don't have any ill will toward AFP, and even if I did, it would be offset 100 fold by how much my daughters love her.
