EvilEgg: a steak wants your dog.

Odd, there is a filter I wasn't aware of. Evidently Fark doesn't care for Yakov Smirnoff, it deleted the first half of my post

That is one calm boxer puppy. Owner must have just ran it 5 miles.

See, everybody likes to stop and say hi to a cute dog.

/Trying to imagine my dogs reaction to cows
//Probably a massive freakout

That dog is lucky those cows didn't tear him apart.

Don't kid yourself! Given the chance a cow will eat you and everyone you care about.

i have a boxer that would of been running around barking playfully whilst trying to get the cows to chase him......he'd probably get kicked

That was actually quite cute. That said, is this not ridiculously stupid? I was always taught not to let dogs too near cows because they can easily become spooked and a spooked cow (or worse, whole herd) can be incredibly dangerous.

Dog walkers have been seriously injured by cows in the past.

yeah you never want to be on the wrong side of a cow or horse being spooked by something, or in that situation if the head honcho cow wanted to see what all the fuss was about she could have bullied her way to the front causing the others to not care about anything but getting out of her way.

The look the dog gives his/her owner at .55 was pretty funny.

Tasty, tasty meat.

And the cows didn't look too bad either.

Anyone notice how the cows are careful not to pick up or handle the puppy?

My husband used to take our boxer Bailey out on jobs in his field service truck (natural gas compressor mechanic), and come home with stories about cows checking the dog out just like this. They would follow him around. No hostility, just curiosity. I can't wait to show my husband this!

My dog had the freakout reaction and got stuck in a barbwire fence the first time she encountered cows.

Yup. Never seen a boxer that wasn't ready to leap over a small building

I'm sure I'm misreading the dog's reaction, but after the black cow (on the right) was startled, the puppy laid down as if to say, "Come on over, I won't hurt you." D'awwwwwww!

Ow. Given the first time my dog saw a deer, he took one look, did a 180 and we were on the way back to the house at a high rate of speed, I don't see a cow encounter going well.

As the owner of a three year old boxer, I will agree, and am seriously wondering if that dog wasn't medicated prior to the meeting.

Perhaps they forgot what toddler calves look like and thought the puppy was a toddler calf. Poor things have a calf every year and it's taken away soon afterwards. Maternal curiosity. That being said, lucky dog didn't get bit or kicked and it's owner needs a smack up the side of his head for endangering his dog.

I love the way they all came in to sniff her, and she just sat there and let them. Granted, I probably would have sat there and let them sniff me too, and I'm not sure if sitting there would have been out of fear or amusement.

I'm really, really, really hoping that the owner either owns those cattle or knows who owns those cattle... as that could have ended very, very, very badly.

If said owner did not know the farmer than the owner is a fricking IDIOT and an arsehole for trespassing.

Is that a Boxer thing? Because my Boxer loves to be chased by cats. She will seek them out and try to goad them into giving her a good chase. When she hangs out with my parents' Border Collies, she is in dog heaven when they try to herd her in.

Growing up my grandparents owned a beef cattle farm. My Grandfather would not let us take our dog (full size collie) into the pasture on a leash because the cows, especially the new moms, would chase him around. Just a warning...be very careful with dogs around cattle. They equate them with coyotes and cows don't appreciate it when coyotes take their calves.

CSB:
I once walked a dog in Germany that got off the leash and ran under an electrified fence and started advancing on some cows with a calf. The cows made the classic circle around the calf and started bellowing at the dog. The dog then proceeded to roll around in cow diarrhea and eat a few loafs of solid cow dung before finally coming back to our side of the fence. We were walking a neighboors dog for some reason and they were not happy about the condition the dog was brought back in, but agreed it was quite funny. The dog also pooped in the road on the way home and was almost attacked by a much bigger dog that the owner hit quite vigorously.
