What happens when a Cop drives onto a farm with his dash cam recording?

2012-01-23 10:07:36 AM
Oh and it's typical that he is going after people who might report lawbreaking and animal mistreatment. You see, a decent lawmaker would go after the farmers breaking the law and mistreating animals....

2012-01-23 10:18:09 AM
It's really terrible when consumers get informed about the practices of businesses. There oughta be a law!

B-b-but he's a job creator! For animals, but still.....

Examples are listed, but none took place in Florida. They include "organizations such as the Humane Society" which sent an undercover investigator to a corporate egg farm in Texas "under the pretext of working for the farm for 28 days in 2010."

It sounds like we need to ban people from working on farms to be truly effective.

Why do they think these laws will discourage activists? They can just anonymously upload to any number of websites to get the word out.

Just don't record him doing it and you're in the clear.

If it's a privately owned company....why would you need a law to enforce something you could write in as a condition of employment and get away with? I know it's crazy and all, but it just seems to me they can actually ban it without a law....

He is simply protecting trade secrets. If the Mexicans and Chinese find out it will mean a loss of American jobs.

With a law in place in addition to company policy, a wage slave who steps out of line would lose their job AND go to jail, thus making it that much harder for them to get a new job (especially if said wage slave intends to get a job that pays above minimum wage)

After reading his statement, this is what filtered out for me:

"Fark human rights, animal abuse and legal working conditions. I'm a small government guy."

2012-01-23 11:20:57 AM
Farming is dirty business, even legal. I grew up on a farm. You make looking for abuses illegal though, Then there is no stopping abuses, and there are a lot of abuses that can be exploited...

2012-01-23 11:21:23 AM
The flash on cameras can scare the animals. Only terrorists take pictures of animals.

2012-01-23 11:22:28 AM
It's already illegal, so adding another law won't stop people. Besides, federal whistleblower laws provide them protection if they uncover anything worth prosecuting.

2012-01-23 11:24:07 AM
Yeah a lot of farmers are scumbags just like the rest of the criminal business-class.

Wouldn't this stomp on existing whistleblower protection laws?

I'm surprised NC legislators aren't considering something like this; just a few weeks ago, animal rights people dressed up as chicken farm workers and took photos of the conditions on the farm, then gave them to the Agriculture Commissioner, who then raided the farm with inspectors.

Oh, and one of the commissioner's own staff members warned the farm owners before the raid took place, yet they still found violations on the farm. Makes you wonder how bad conditions were before the call was made...

The real question is what the hell does a citrus grower have that needs covering up?

2012-01-23 11:38:23 AM
While this is stupid, it's only proposed legislation. Food libel laws are on the books in Florida and twelve other states.

So he doesn't want people taking pictures of him slaughtering citrus? I bet PETF is really pissed (People for the Ethical Treatment of Fruit).

I don't know about citrus growers but have you ever seen what happens on carrot farms? To you it might be harvest day but to them it is the holocaust. Let the rabbits wear glasses! These people need to be exposed. This is necessary.

StoneColdAtheist: And by "small government" he means "government of the rich and powerful, by the rich and powerful and for the rich and powerful".

Fark the 99%.

Well, Government small enough to be pushed around by businesses is what they would like. Currently, you've got a "can't beat 'em, join 'em" situation. So there are enough "business friendly" guys in Congress to get through 90% of what they would like... but it is that 10% uncertainty that frightens them.

Because if an activist potographed mistreatment of animals as an employee, the only repercussion he would face is the loss of his job. This is necessary so that whistleblowers can be prosecuted.

If you saw the way they torture those oranges and grapefruits, you would never eat breakfast again! Fruits are people too! (No, not those fruits. Of course they're not people!) Join PETCF (People for the Ethical Treatment of Citrus Fruits) today!

Dammit, I forgot which side I'm trying to troll...

They make juice by squeezing the oranges between their buttcheeks.

Trust me, I grew up on a farm.

FriarReb98: why would you need a law to enforce something you could write in as a condition of employment and get away with?

Whistleblower statutes as well as the fact that you can't contractually agree to commit a crime. failure to report labor or animal abuse is a crime in some areas.

Last Tuesday I had a validation at my farm for a new regulatory program the canadian government is bringing in for dairy farms. Since we knew it was coming everything was perfect in the barn. The inspection was over at 1. If an animal rights activist had walked in at 3 we would have been facing animal cruelty charges. Why? A heifer had broken a waterline and flooded her pen.

The point of my anecdote is that things can go from Grade A to "animal cruelty" very quickly. The consumer won't get the info that I moved the heifer to a dry pen as soon as I got there, they'll get the activists' narrative,.

In other news:

The United States Supreme Court ruled on Monday for the first time that law enforcement must obtain a warrant before using a global positioning system (GPS) device to track suspects.

The high court said that GPS tracking amounted to a search, and the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution protects Americans against unreasonable searches and seizures.

The ruling comes as a defeat for the Obama administration,

Keep pretending the dems are better

hope and change.
