Nope.

He changed his mind. (new window)

Just a play for a bigger paycheck from Oregon. No sane person would want to coach the Bucs.

I guess he did for a pay raise from Oregon as opposed to punching out before the NCAA sanctions hit, oh well.

So he's pulling a Pete Carroll?

Unless he's just greedy, it's a pretty easy decision. Stay where you can run your program your way and become a legend (and have pretty much anything you want funded by Phil Knight), or go and become just another in a long line of coaches who have to fight the suits running a mediocre program in a mediocre market.

Tampa Bay comes to Minnesota next season. I will gladly pay for a ticket to boo the shiat out of Childress.

Pretty much this. He's got a dream job @ Oregon. A head coaching job in the NFL only lasts a few years, if you really succeed, a few more. He can stay in Eugene as long as he wants.

Why would Kelly go to Tampa? The budget is smaller than in Oregon, they drag out those god-awful popsicle jerseys once/year, and he would have to deal with a real brute force game instead of his finesse game at O.

Might still go elsewhere 'cause the sanctions are definitely headed his way at Oregon....

They are going to hire Mike Zimmer, out of the folks they have interviewed he seems the best fit for what they are looking for

That's if he'd take the job. The Bucs are such a mess that a high-profile coordinator like Zimmer would be better spent waiting another year and taking a job like the Eagles or Chargers next year than have their reputations sullied by coaching the Bucs in their current state.

well another thing to keep in mind is that the Colts and Chiefs are also hiring

What about Lyle "Chip" Chipperson?

scratch that.. I forgot they made Crennel official

If he cared about jerseys, he would have never taken the Oregon job.

Raiders job is still open I believe. Which is great if you don't like having a viable QB signed for next year or draft picks to help rebuild the team.

If I was the Bucs owner, I'd immediately fire Tampa's GM for even suggesting to hire a college coach let alone getting turned down by one.

Yeah, the 49'ers GM should have done that last year too. Harbaugh was such a farking failure.

He actually was a NFL player and barely coached in college. That was defensible.

the only real mess was the coaching staff and they have all been fired

Wait, how is hiring someone who "barely coached in college" more defensible than hiring someone like Chip Kelly?

Not saying it would have been a great hire, but this entire notion that college coaches cant make it in the NFL is crap. Off the top of my head I can think of 3 coaches that got their starts in college with little to no NFL experience that went on to win Superbowls. Sure there are a number of high profile failures coming from the college ranks, but then there are numerous guys with loads of NFL experience that suck too.

They still need to overhaul the roster to shed some of the less desirable elements. Low character guys that Morris sought out tend to quit when the going gets tough, and tough times are ahead for the Bucs. I wouldn't want to coach that roster and it's going to take time to change their direction. There aren't too many keepers on that squad.

Harbaugh has more college head coaching experience than Chip Kelly, but he runs a more pro style offense than Kelly. Also, Harbaugh was going to come with 2 of the 3 excellent coordinators (technically one was an assistant coach) on Stanford's staff.
