You have to feel for Romney to a certain extent. Who would have thought that the public needed to be reminded that Newt Gingrich is an amoral, lying, sack of shiat?

2012-01-23 09:42:09 AM
Still, like many supporters, she wasn't ready to believe Gingrich was anywhere close to grabbing the nomination.

"Newt's like a see-saw," she said. "He'll fall again."

I don't think that this woman has ever been on a see-saw.

For all the talk about how this is firing up the GOP base....The energy being wasted here is being wasted on a fellow GOPer and not the President.

The GOP's main strength was their lock-step support of the anointed nominee and their ability to stay focused in the face of adversity.

And they have willingly abandoned that unity of purpose and structured authority of the Establishment GOP. I can't even really figure out 'why' they did it, but it's gone all the same. They're going to be savaging each other all the way to the RNC while the President does his job of being Presidential.

Romney got to comfy there in as the anointed one and had premature fartbongo attackulation when he should have been going after the foaminator and the man baby.

Even he under-estimated the myopia of the base. I did too, shiat, I'm absolutely shocked that he's a "viable" candidate to some people. It's like they forgot all of history.

What you underestimated is the animosity that the evangelical Southern base feels for a Western apostolic cult that may well be connected to the Anti-Christ.

They will NOT vote for him. This has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with religious animosity. They do not see Mormons as Christian. If Newt caught fire today and died on stage, they'd move slightly to the right and coalesce around Rick Foam.

Yes, but this was not a general election, so it was not the public, but a special sub-species of the public called Republicans and they love their amoral, lying, sacks of shiat.

The "playing mean" thing does not work to Romney's strengths. Both Romney and Gingrich are extremely mean and offensive men. But when Gingrich is mean, the reaction from the GOP base is "HAHAHA Oh BURN!!!" When Romney is mean, the reaction from everyone is "Christ, what is wrong with this asshole?"

I disagree. This support of Gingrich shows without question that social conservatives don't care about the morals of their side. Clinton: disgusting horndog Edwards: adultering scumbag Gingrich: Champion of family values. They would be apoplectic if a Democrat mormon was running for office. Since it's a Republican they'll fall in line shrugging their shoulders and saying "hey, at least he isn't an atheist Muslim."

They would be all over Romney if it wasn't for his liberal past. He fails their purity test. Gingrich, however vile, still says all the right things to let people think he is a true believer.

As an atheist raised Dominican Roman Catholic I have to say they are right. Mormons are not Christians, they are a heresy of Satan worshipers disguised as Christians.

Oh no, no no. Gingrich is most certainly not being backed by the establishment. He's damned near broke...again. They're not helping him at all, and I'm sure that his voice mail is full of shrill squeals from Karl Rove pleading for him to just stop...

As has been noted, the GOP nomination is a rhythm based on how well you did in the one before. It's Romney's turn and that's it. Gingrich is short circuiting the whole thing by bucking the Establishment and going for the brass ring 'now'. If he'd waited, he'd have gotten his shot in 2016, but he's too proud to let Romney beat him, so he's making a play for the ignorant base while Romney keeps the Establishment support.

FTFA;

.David Poler, a retired business development executive, and his wife Manuela, a retired flight attendant, had plenty of ideas as to what Mitt was doing wrong. Both were shocked to see him on the ropes over Bain Capital and his tax records in a Republican primary.

"He needs to be less laid back," Mrs. Poler said. "Lay out succinctly what you did, don't be on the defensive. This is what people aspire to!"

"Be proud of it," her husband agreed.

I think Dems are making a huge mistake thinking Newt would be a joke in the general. We laugh at Republicans because they're favoring a philandering wack-job who is so full of hate and bile he makes Malcolm X look like a girl scout. I keep reading, "oh man, Obama will crush Newt." Why does everyone think that? Why do we insist on using logic to predict how people should vote? People are unhappy and they want someone to tell them it's the black guy's fault. Add to that the media's financial incentive to have a close race, and i think it goes down to the wire. Especially when we get to late summer and Newt announces his running mate and 4th wife, Bristol Pailin.

Mittens, on the other hand is a push-over. He's Kerry 2.0 with a weird religion, no military service, and a manicure. He couldn't even answer the obvious tax return question when he had all week to prepare for it. That's sad.

The big difference between Romney and Gingrich's campaigns is that Gingrich is aiming to lose against taxbongo to promote his awesome book about the liebral MSM media refusing to give him a fair shake. Romney's in it to win, but hasn't realized he's already lost. Gingrich's complete lack of shame is becoming more and more appealing to the base. That alone should more than make up for the delta in income (assuming Gingrich can get enough to keep his campaign running).

I'm tempted to donate to Gingrich to keep this hilarity going. I really want to see Obama go full trollface and publicly donate like $500 grand to Gingrich's campaign.

You see, first he forged his birth certificate and hid his Harvard grades to get elected. Then, he had his dark horse first term, where he got everyone from both parties compacent by fixing the economy and ending all war on earth. This is how he gets his second term to bring about the apocalypse.

She and her husband have been in tough straits since the economic crash, struggling to hold onto their home after she lost her job in Maine in mental health crisis intervention ("I went from one crisis to the nation's crisis," she says.) She thinks Romney's demeanor should reflect the passions of supporters like her more.

Why would Gingrich be a horrible candidate? Because he fires up the GOP base.

Think about that. He makes the GOP base 'excited'. Think about what it takes to make them excited, the things that he has to say, the things he has to do...

He won't have the GOP support. Remember how the Establishment was very much 'meh' about McCain even after he picked Para Sailin? It'll be much worse than that. If the Establishment gets bucked and Newt takes the nomination in spite of the backers behind the scenes, they 'will' sabotage his run.

Then, consider how that excited GOP base is going to effect the rest of us. Can you imagine how horrified the rest of America will be when they see him as the nominee? People talked before about how Hillary Clinton could do more than get the GOP base riled up and ready to vote than any GOP candidate. Newt will do the same to the middle/left base in this country.

Yeah, about that: Link

The dude has never had approval ratings within even 15 points of his dissaproval ratings. Sure the whack job tea-partiers and racist southeners lap that crap up, but in a general election Newt would be crucified (barring total economic collapse or some other unforseen calamity). We are talking a Gingrich nomination having a major negative effect on Republican down-ticket races. The numbers pretty much say it would be a disaster of epic proportions to nominate this guy. Do it republicans! Do IT!

Basically it's because while Newt's empty, angry rhetoric plays very well with his base, that base no longer makes up more than 30% of voters if we're being generous. Couple that with his entirely undeserved confidence and he would shoot himself in the foot HARD when he finally gets one of those "Lincoln-Douglass style debates" he keeps asking for. President Obama, for all his faults, can use both rhetoric AND substance - Newt has ONLY superficiality, because he's basically Oogie-Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas - he's a shell full of crawling insects, and you only need to pull one thread to expose him.
